Audi A1 Start/Stop

Hi,

So I've had my automatic Audi a1 for a month now. Yesterday on the way home from work when at a roundabout the start/stop system completely cut out my engine. When I went to hit the accelerator the " engage to N or P" sign came up on the dashboard. I had to completely restart the engine to move the car. To my understanding as soon as I touch the accelerator the car should restart? This has never happened before but yesterday it happened twice in a 15 minute journey. Also the car has been struggling to start lately in the mornings, not sure if this is relevant to the issue.

Any ideas of what this could be?

Going to get a scan on Saturday as my local Audi place close before I finish work :( I've just turned the start/stop off for the moment.
