ive been check the continuity between pin to and from 19 and 20, from the cluster to the abs module

i get a beep from 19 to the otherside
20 to the other side
it also beeps when cross over, is this right?

wiring isnt my strongest skill

From pin 19 on the green plug the CAN HIGH orange/black wire goes to the diagnostic plug at pin 3 and to the ABS pump (the pin varies if the car has EDL/ESP), the steering angle sensor (for cars with ESP), engine ECU, air bag ECU and the gearbox ECU on cars with automatic transmission.
From pin 20 on the green plug the CAN LOW orange/brown wire goes to the diagnostic plug at pin 11 and to the ABS pump (the pin varies if the car has EDL/ESP), the steering angle sensor (for cars with ESP), engine ECU, air bag ECU and the gearbox ECU on cars with automatic transmission.

Unless the connected devices are unplugged you can get false cross continuity readings.

the green plug and the abs plug were both disconnected, id have to disconnect the engine ecu and air bag ecu to get a proper result? its a manual and doesnt have edl/esp

i can get abs pumps with the correct numbers stamped, i take it when replacing the module it needs to be the exact bosch number thats on the white sticker? if the continuty is ok, and i have to try replace the module again, have you used any companys in the past to recon the module?

Yes you will get false readings unless everything is disconnected so engine ECU and air bag controller, then test again.

ok mate thanks

i spoke to a polish guy today he reckons i dont need to use computer to bleed brakes, i then had a car in for mot today and the garage didnt think i needed computer to bleed brakes.....

i was under the impression, once the abs pump had beeen removed, computer was needed to bleed the system

can you confirm this please, you know your stuff

its a 2001 b5.5 passat 1.9 tdi sport estate

The Bosch system does not need the computer bleed method, we call it an "Basic Settings Bleed" but this is for ATE (AKA Teves or ITT) systems and, not Bosch.

bosh 5.3, no way!!

so its just a case of bleeding the brakes like normal? maybe have the engine running

i tried bleeding the brakes before and wasny happy with the amount of fluid that was comming from each caliper, internet search led me to believing i needed vcds
