Hi,
The front glass on one of my headlamp units is broken (small hole), and I have been told that this is grounds for a failed MOT (the bulbs inside are all still working). I've been quoted £180 for a complete headlamp unit replacement. Does anyone know if it is possible to just repair the glass instead?

I don't know anything about repairing it or whether they will fail it on a MOT but you can get some replacements off ebay sometimes cheaper than that, as long as you can fit them yourself! My advice is to shop around!

£180! Even a genuine VW unit for a GTI unit with fog lights is only £99.88 inc. VAT. By the way, "Points of purchase other than eBay are available". What model and year?

First thanks for this (and everyone else's) reply - this is my first post on this forum and nice to see so much activiity.

As for the car, it's a 2002 Golf Estate SE 2.0. I now have a quote of £164 inc VAT - this is for unit + labour to replace. I'm afraid I don't have the time to do the job myself.

That’s right for a dealer but an independent could knock quite a bit off that for a genuine Hella or Valeo unit (it could have either), I would expect about £130.

No me, no but others have and the whole system is doing terrible damage to the retail industry from where I stand in that many companies are shutting down.
