57 Reg Crafter limited to 58mph??

We have just taken delivery of a 57 plate VW LWB drop side Crafter (136bhp), this was to replace out 53reg LWB 350 90ps Transit (220k mileage).

However, unlike the Transit it is limited to 58mph, it also has a tacho meter.

Why is it limited to 58mph when the transit wasn't? Is this just because its a bigger van?

Is there anyway of removing the governor?

New eu law dictates that anything over a certain weight (3.5tonne i think :confused: ) should be restricted to 56mph, as a safety feature.

This directive has contributed to the royal mail strike action, because delivery drivers will have to leave earlier to achieve the deliveries on time.
