Gents

Been busy and not round for a bit but looks like all are well.

The finds thread is going great but thought it would be good to have a Nav only thread as I am finding the Q7 unit so much more user friendly than the Audi system in my last three cars and the last two being full HDD.

So on my current jaunt up north just realised the blue dot malarky and what it's all about. Very handy quick ref.

NOTE: Mrs P took the pic.

So what else have we found then.

I too am finding the nav a massive improvement , especially being able to send destinations from your home pc to the car . The only trouble I am finding is when out of the mainland , currently in Jersey and the Sat nav will not boot up for a good 10 minutes after setting off when it finally connects to the internet at which point I can get the destination from the my audi destinations . the trouble is ten minutes is halfway across the island ! So on the next day I decided to get the postcode for where we wanted to go but alas until it connects to the internet it just has a buffering symbol and wont find a postcode either . The only way I got it to work other than parking up and waiting 10 minutes was to actually guess roughly where I wanted to go on the sat image and click on it for the destination and then hope it connects before we get there for the final guidance , very annoying . Back home it's no problem unless my wife's phone has been connected since mine then every now and again it does the same but too randomly to get it to happen when at audi

You can also send destinations from the myaudi phone app which is handy

anyone figured out using Audi satnav on VC and 3rd party via smartphone interface on small screen simultaneously..

My VC defaults to compass.. When the smartphone enabled AA maps come on???

Have a couple of reasons to use the fallback map on side screen .. As can be quite handy on alternative route guidance without faffing with the main out nav..

I have to admit, I prefer using Google maps through the smartphone interface.

On the trip earlier in the week it was great to just quick glance refer to it rather than look at the centre console.

So does the nav on your VC then just switch/ change to a compass when Google maps via smart interface kicks in?... Cheers

Random Q: you know how the MMI screen shows next three nav instructions/services...

Is there anyway to show this in the VC Nav screen?

Also ran out of data again today using google Maps and nothing else...

I don't believe there is. I've not found a setting to add it. Now you mention it,it's a shame it's not there.

Yup I've never really thought about it until yesterday and I think my wife was trying to sort something out via the Media screens and I stuck the map on VC but really missed the next three instructions - amazed myself at how much I must just glance at those to see what the upcoming directions are (oh and services when you're potty training the 2yr old...[emoji23])

We just did a trip down to Cornwall for a week and it made me use the sat nav completely different to normal use. On the long drive I display the sat nav on the MMI so I can see how long I can cruise on a stretch until the next turn or roundabout or when the next services are and I still have HUD info as well. This way on the long journey I can have the VC display vehicle statics like short term journey log to monitor my MPG. Displaying the nav on the MMI gives you better traffic info and an option on the screen is available to select if a faster route exists. Also I have the star button on the steering wheel as a short cut to traffic info. So while driving I can just press the star button and up pops the full traffic information. As a bonus while the VC displays the vehicle statics I still have a small sat nav display in the middle of the speedo.
We like our music and I have found flicking between music and MMI sat nav easy especially with the MMI shortcut keys.

But driving locally I use CarPlay and constantly play with me music so the VC becomes my sat nav if I need it.

I think the options are brilliant
