Guys,

Can anyone confirm if you plug a USB device into one of the ports under the centre armRest (and NOT using the Smartphone Interface for AA or AC) that you can or cannot choose "AV" in the Media MMI menu and play a Video+Audio on the MMI screen?

It used to be the AMI (Audi Music Interface) on older Audi's but that connector which used to sit in the glovebox, to my knowledge doesn't exist any more

I have an "AV" menu option in the MMI, just not sure how to use it and if it can be used for playing video with sound off a USB Key/Mobile Phone/USB device of choice...

Edit: Page 271 on the manual... do we have "AMI" in our cars? (irrespective of SmartPhone Interface remember)

Ok, little update. I was getting confused. I have "Aux" as an input option which is the little 3.5mm headphone socket under the centre arm rest.

As I have an Android device if I plug that in with a USB cable into one of the two sockets under the arm rest I can play music etc, but can't control it via the actual MMI. Thats what an iPod/iPhone can do I suppose but I'll need one of those for that and the right cable

Question: Does anyone have the Audi official USB>Apple Lightning cable and if you plug it into one of the USB ports under the centre console can you "control" all your songs within the MMI? (Again, no SmartPhone Interface use here)... Or would someone be kind enough to test?

Thanks!

Andy

Hi Andy, I can try later as I think you can disable the carplay from starting.

Are you expecting a different behaviour to that over Bluetooth where you can browse your apple music via 'folders'. I have done this a few times but I'm pretty sure it's limited to music you've purchased and not offlined via apple music subscription.

Thanks mate. Yeah if it's possible to temporarily disable the smart phone interface.

It should be different than over Bluetooth. You should have a proper ipod style menu system AFAIK if connecting over USB.

Be good if you could see if it is really different than the connection over Bluetooth which as you say is like browsing 'folders'

Much appreciated. Cheers

Can definitely control music on iPhone via mmi (select Albums,Artists, also apple music etc). I rarely have smartphone interface enabled and listen to music on phone in the same way I used my old iPod in my old A4.

I'm not using the official cable they gave me as it's an awful shape.

Agreed I remember this well from car 1

Thanks guys. Is that via Bluetooth or USB or same for both. In my 2010 A5 if I plugged ipod into AMI socket in glove box you got quite a user friendly interface in the MMI to navigate music. Trying to work out if it's same via the USB ports under the centre armrest we have now...

I haven't tried over Bluetooth for a while as I tend to plug phone in as soon as I get into the car but I'm pretty sure it was the same. Will check the Bluetooth again tomorrow.

Here you go. It does do an iPod mode! Much better than Bluetooth:

Cheers mate!

Whats it like with just Bluetooth then?

Awesome tracks by the way. Loving a bit of Shed Seven!

Via Bluetooth the menus arent so obvious. Will take some photos tomorrow but top one is called folders I think then it's your phone name then something else before you get to your music and then it's like a windows explorer menu

Yeah, bit of a blast from the past! Saw them with inspiral carpets last December

Yes please.. Cheersl

I'm thinking of putting a USB port into glove box from centre armrest and then getting an ipod touch 6th gen in there along with the MMI App for napster etc. It will have wifi to car wifi hotspot. I wonder if I can get it to sync music from my home library over the car wifi and internet?

I do a similar thing with an iPod touch over USB in my BMW now. It sits in the centre armrest permanently connected to USB, it syncs Apple Music and Podcasts etc over Wifi so it's always up-to-date and charged. Works well. Not sure what the Napster app would do though.

I started another thread to see if CarPlay works with the iPod touch, but the consensus is that it won't, which is a shame.

Q7 due in late October.

Cheers mate, yeah as I thought.. and like you said, more a folder like structure... and maybe not all the album artwork shows.. just those "generic ones" like in your last pic. Much appreciated!

JonoNZ - Yeah, how does your ipod touch sync over wifi.. does it use the wifi hotspot in the car, or is it when your parked close enough to your house it picks up your home wifi to sync? :)

The MMI App along with Napster enables Napster in the MMI (ironically not Spotify) so you can access all your Napster content and stream anything on napster via the MMI interface. Same goes for "Aupeo!" the radio streaming service.

Cheers

It uses the WiFi from the access point in our garage. In the new Q7 I was planning on using the car itself.

AP in Garage.. not a bad idea!

As I'm not an iApple advocate (sorry), is it clever enough to just auto-sync when it gets an internet connection? Trying to work out if like you I can just leave it in the glove box and it will always sync.

Cheers

Hi, yes, it will auto download music added to playlists or new podcasts - this is true for the standard Apple Music and Podcasts apps. Not sure what would happen with a 3rd party app though.
