hi
after having a service and replacing a worn breather hose , my gti is misfiring and cutting out , the mechanic swears it must be the oxygen sensor ? is there any way of checking the sensor myself ? also , i dont really understand why the car is mis- firing now , as it wasnt before the service !!
please help . cheers

the best way to check the sensor is to get a compter plugged in at a specialist volkswagon garage.. it will show wether the sensor is faulty or not. .. i just went for an mot and the car failied on the emmisssions. i stopped the mot at this point of course as the emmissions was the firs test to be carried out. and din not seem any point in continuing. the inspector could not understand whay as everything seemed to be fine.. no noise or spluttering like u suggest.. not yet anyways.. anways he plugged in the computer inside the car this showed a static fault on the lamda (oxygen) sensor.. i rang around all the scrappies and manged to get one for 20 squid. screwed out the old one.. put in the replacement. (as simple as that) back to the mot and passed with flying colours.. i have a mk3 gti.. a new one would have cost 103 from the main dealer as non of the smaller parts shops had one.
