Been looking at fitting ultra discreet or ultra small dash cam for the Q7 in the long term

- This Product shows up a lot on the searches - Anyone come across this or used one??
[iconCam] new Audi Dashcam (black and whitish beige) Car Camera Black Box to Fit A1/A3/A4L/A5/A6/A7/A8/Q3/Q5/Q7 - Kammu.com (http://www.kammu.com/shop/dash-cam/factory-audi-dash-cam-car-dvr-camera-video-recorder-with-full-hd-1080p-g-sensor/) - Not sure about the website though..

Best dash cam | Best car dash cams 2016 - Test Centre - PC Advisor (http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/photo-video/best-dash-cams-2016-uk-best-car-dashcams-3632857/)

I thought the new Q7 would have the camera installed there (behind the mirror) but the front camera is actually above the mirror

Behind the mirror the base looks like below.. Which appears to have some vents through them... Not sure of the purpose of those vents.. ??

Any tinker-teers think this could be viable and easy install or if you have ever removed that bit under the Audi mirrors - given the camera below actually exist and not a scam?

Google's seems to have loads of pictures as below, thought maybe someone out there actually has one or seen a really one ..

I had the same sort of search results when I was looking for something permanent in my A7, I liked the idea of this being part of the mirror fitting but decided against it as I couldn't find anyone that could fit it for me and I'm not good with the technical side of things, went for a Thinkware F750 2 channel instead, works well and feel more comfortable driving., there is a new Thinkware F770 out now which looks smaller and likely better quality as is the case with most new releases.

Where exactly did you end up place dash or windscreen? Take it's quite s petit discreet-ish device?

local install ? or specialist Audi type.. I think the Fuse stuff for the new Q7 is on the left passenger side footwell..

I have a nextbase 312gw. Has to be mounted slightly to the side of the mirror as there's a sensor built into the rear of the mirror (auto dimming probably).
Run down the side and used the nextbase piggyback fuse kit to supply it with switched power.
Works well and I barely notice it. More visible to the passenger I think.

I have been looking at the Thinkware for a while there are some great reviews and installation videos on You Tube. If I had not managed to get speed cameras into the car sat nav via POI I would of got one as the thinkware also has GPS built in and will also alert to speed cameras etc.

I was looking for one that would work when parked. My X5 was hit last year when parked but fortunately they left details. Not sure the cost makes sense though.

Hi,

I had mine installed by Chameleon who are the authorised installer by RAC (I went direct rather than through RAC) and are available nationally, paid the extra for the install and the parking mode which runs for 2 days before auto switchoff. The install for the front is behind the "A" pillar and under the headlining and the fuses are on the driver side and for the tailgait the trim behind the high level breaklight was removed and the driver side arm of the tailgait, there are some people who report DAB issues after the install but mine is ok so far. There was now way I could have done this never mind the electrics but I know some on the forum are more than capable.

The front camera is definitely not discreet but I don't mind that and it isn't in my eyeshot when driving and really the only position for a central recording and the for lane guidance function to work correctly/accurately, the rear camera is small and cant be seen at all with the privacy glass, I have attached some pictures, I was going to go for the blackvue but there are some pretty bad reviews on this forum alone regarding overheating and memory card formatting, Thinkware isn't the cheapest especially with the install however the playback and gps is great massive piece of mind if anything was to happen

I'm most looking forward to watching the footage back after its been in the dealers hands (the sound will definitely be recorded for that!!) and be seriously questioning the service manger if the camera was disconnected

Might it be easier to find a garage that you trust?

Lidl have got some sort of a dashcam on offer this week...no idea what it is or if any good....I may invest in it for rear recording.

On the front I have the transcend which is good but I have to admit I take it off and don't leave it on.

Wiring wise just got dealers to hide the wiring for me which they did - only slight annoyance is that it comes back through the ashtray for front 12V socket and I can't fully close it due to the wire...no biggie but does keep the wiring all hidden

Nextbase are quite highly rated with which.co.uk too.. Seems like a lot of folk have them.. Quite sure they are generic with nextbase using their branding in the UK..
