I purchased a 2000 Audi A6 about a month ago. Owner said front brakes were
replaced recently. Visual inspection seemed to indicate new pads. About 2
weeks later, the brake pad wear sensor came on and now stays on. Also, I
have recently replaced the rear brakes myself. QUESTION: Are the brake pad
sensors found only on the front brakes? Why would the sensor come on? Can
you disable the sensor? Thank You

...QUESTION: Are the brake pad sensors found only on the front brakes? Yes

...Why would the sensor come on?... With the car on jackstands/trolley jack check behind the front wheels to see if the sensors are properly clipped in. If the previous owner replaced the pads with "sensorless" pads they should have inserted a length of wire between the pins of the molex clip to fool the car into thinking the circuit is completed. Perhaps this has come apart? If this isn't the case, it could mean a number of things including fluid levels, ABS problems, faulty handbrake and so on.

When you say the sensor comes on, what do you see? {O} something similar to that or a message in the display saying something like "Check brakes"

...Can you disable the sensor?... Yes, see above - either cut the molex clip from the car-end of the cable and tie the ends of the wires together, or use a small length of cable to wire the pins together.

Hope this helps
