View Full Version : Q7 4M | Car Stands & Wheel Removal

Gents,

1. Anyone removed a wheel off their new Q7 4M yet with Air Suspension (I noticed some option in the MMI about when removing a wheel to select it?)

2. Anyone know where you can safely put a set of car stands under the front and rear of the car (not at the same time)?

Reason: I'm painting my calipers in graphite (or should I say, I want to).

Andy, I had air suspension on my 4L, and there was a specific "jacking mode" that you had to put it in before raising the wheel off the ground - sounds like it might be the same on the 4M (not having mine yet I don't know!). I only found this out when I got a puncture fixed and the corner in question was noticeably higher than the other three - all because jacking mode had not been selected (as far as I can remember I got a notification in the dash that it was in jacking mode - again, not sure if this is the case with the 4M).

I called Audi up and asked what the story was and luckily I got a tech who told me to "give it a good blast on the motorway" which reset it!

Yeah, the 4M is the same. You have to go into car settings and select wheel changing mode. This disengages the air-pressure modulator and gyroscope while you have the suspension raised. Usually putting the car in auto and a quick 80mph run does it. Although on occasion it can need to be put on the computer and the suspension reset.

As for the safest place to place your stilts, I'd say the metal a half foot or so inside, in line with the front door sil would work well for the front.

Hi Andy.
I'm doing the same thing today. :D
What color you're going for?

andyhud007
09-07-2016, 12:26 PM
Graphite grey with black decals.

But my 2 tonne hydraulic Jack isn't strong enough so using the emergency Jack takes forever to take the jack stands under the car!

Here is where my stands go for the front wheels.

Any one who wants to jack a q7 using the jacking points with a non genuine jack I found this usefull

Some lucky few had jacks come with there car

after talks and thanks to Andy I used this on a trolley jack

anyone who get or borrow a trolley jack you will need a 2.5 -3 ton jack

hope this helps you guys

Audi Hydraulic Trolley Jack / Ramp / Scissor Lift Adapter Pad R8 TT Mk2 8J | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-Hydraulic-Trolley-Jack-Ramp-Scissor-Lift-Adapter-Pad-R8-TT-Mk2-8J-/272295616148?hash=item3f66155e94:g:Xt8AAOSwMmBV0gl d)

When refitting the wheel your find in the car tool kit a rod with thread on one end screw that into one of the bolt holes so when wheel is refitted the wheel is easy to fit and realign with the bolt holes
this is a godsend as wheels are not light to move about to align bolts hols this way it's done first try

Nice find Max. Ordered one as I'd rather use my trolley Jack then the one that comes with the car.

How about a £25 jack job from Lidl ?
This little monster managed to lift the old Q7 so we figured it'll be fine for a new one since its 300 kg less...
BTW front right is done...

Wow I wasn't so lucky
i used a mates jack that size and lifted up till the suspension fully extended then stated to take the weight Off the wheel it stopped
and even started to bend the support bars that run along side the arm
was an old jack mind

i thought car is 2.5 ton Max so each corner a 1 tone jack should lift but didn't work lol

like I said mind jack was old so brought a sealey 3 ton job looked much safer also

one thing I did notice mind when I removed the wheel you really got to see and feel the shear size and how big the 21" wheel really is

as wheeled the wheel pass me dads 18' merc wheel made that 18" wheel look small lol

Great work wolek... Did you do the rears as well? Looks good on a white car.. Is it a white car?

andyhud007

Did you paint that bleed value as well???

wolek76
09-07-2016, 07:34 PM
Yes. It's a white one.
I did the rears too although there was no space for any fancy stickers.
And yes, I did paint the bleeding valves too as apparently these have got a tendency to rust up.
As for stickers, had a couple left over from my previous Q7 (4L).
These do not have to be heat resistant. The old Q had them for 2 years with no sign of temperature damage.
Here are some more pics....

Great work mate... You did spray right.. I'm doing brush...

I've started.. Only started on passenger side. Spent a lot of time with steel brush cleaning calipers down.. Pretty dirty... Brake and caliper cleaning is awesome stuff, got paint on and clear lacquer to go on tomorrow.

Don't want to sound patronising but are you sure you'll get the look you're after?
My cousin (who did 90% of the work) says you might struggle with the shiny finnish.
Can't wait to see your results

Dunno... I did brush before on my A5 and it was great... So just repeating the process.

Ok for some had to buy mine
still have all the tools but jacks and things like that never brought one as could always use the work jack

the calipers is not smooth anyway part from the front face that's sort of smooths so prob won't show brush marks and curtain paints are good not showing brush marks

strange that on the SQ7 you can choose your calipers colour so should be same on the Q7 really
