All,

In an effort to start documenting what can be changed/altered/enabled/disabled on the new Q7 (4M), I am creating this post/thread to keep all the information in one single place. This post is a "sticky" so will remain at the top of the Q7 forum. I will then keep this post updated as more information is uncovered. Of course, anyone can contribute by replying to this thread and I'll do my best to add it to the first post so all the information is stored in one easy place at the top.

Background

Audi/Seat/VW and other cars have always had the ability to be interogated from a computer diagnostic level to see what is within the car. This is all done via the ODB II connector you will find under your footwell on the drivers side of your car. Its a purple connector (colour could be different) and by connecting a device to this along with a laptop (or nowadays even a mobile phone with an app) we are able to interface with the cars computer systems and see whats inside, whats configured and in some cases alter, change, enabled and disable things.

Some items are easy to change because they are the same across varying cars (like all Audi models for example) while other items are much harder to change/alter because they are (for example) stored behind security access which requires getting past. Even then, some items are not available because to alter them they require "calling home" to Audi HQ to make the changes.

That all being said, there is a lot available to look into and that is what this thread will attempt to detail.

Q7 (4M)

The new S/Q7 (4M) is one of the first cars from Audi to utilise a newer platform they call MLB 2 (somtimes refered to as 'MLBEvo') Do a search for these terms online to read more about them.

The downside to this is the new Q7 (4M) utilises the new MLB2 platform, and so a lot of the information around changes that were uncovered under the older MLB platform (common across many Audi's/VWs etc) do not apply to this new platform. We are effectively starting from scratch again to uncover what may be possible and sadly this just takes time.

In addition, the systems used to connect to the platform, in some cases themselves require updates/changes to be able to interface with the car. As you can imagine, this also takes time as those vendors start to peel back the layers of the MLB2 platform and learn how to interrogate it.

On the plus side, there are many enthusiasts, such as myself keen to understand and break these barriers down and I have been talking a number of folk across the world to see what is possible and we are slowly making progress.

Devices

There are many devices you can purchase online to connect to your car. Anyone can purchase these and you dont need to be a car dealer/mechanic to get hold of them. However some of them can be very powerful and if you dont know what your doing you could end up with a car that wont start/lock/turnover or whatever else. This would involve getting it to a dealer to effectively be "factory reset" which no doubt will come at a price!

I have only worked with 2 devices and I do not work for either of these companies but over the last 6 years of using them I find them good for my needs. There are other products available but I have no experience of any other products so unfortunately can't comment on them. Some may be able to do the same/more/less.

The two I use are called VCDS (Vag Com Diagnostic System) and VCP (Vag Com Pro). A quick search online and you can find out about these, their cost and how to use them.

Update 2/11/2016: I am now starting to include ODBEleven device coding changes for those of you that have an ODBEleven device. Will add as we uncover them.

Coding / Adaption Changes

Below I will start to detail what changes can be made that we have uncovered so far.

1. These are nearly all for the Q7 4M ONLY.
2. *** Ensure you create a backup of your car before making any changes. In VCDS for example, do a complete "Auto Scan" and let it finish before carrying out any coding. Save the output (txt file) to your computer. ***
3. If something doesn't work as expected go straight back to the change you made and revert it to avoid losing track of what you altered.
4. The changes below will have been done by either VCDS (with a Hex-NET Interface) and/or VCP or in some cases ODBEleven. I'll detail which system for each one. It may be possible other devices can use the same steps.
5. I accept no responsibility for any damage this may cause to your car. I detail the below to the best of my knowledge and as safely as possible. Follow the steps and you should be fine. If your unsure, ask.

Useful Helpers

MMI Reboot

Sometimes the changes require the MMI to be rebooted (like a 3 finger salute on a computer) for changes to show up/take effect. Switching the ignition off/on isnt enough

In the Q7 (4M) a 3 Finger salute is done by holding the Nav and Radio Buttons "up" and then pressing the main rotary knob. This will cause the MMI to do a quick reboot.

Note: Yes, you can do this while driving.

Seat Belt Chime Disable

Description: By default, if the driver or any other passenger does not have their seat belt engaged a "Chime" will repeatedly make a noise until the seat belt is engaged if you start driving. There appears to be two methods to disable this Seat Belt chime.
Method 1: Using Long Coding
Method 2: Changing an Adaptation Channel
Notes: The chime is disabled for the driver and any passenger in the front or middle row. The 5 seat icon on the instrument cluster will still show when seats are occupied when using the Adaptation Channel method as far as we can tell.

Tailgate Opening Delay - Via Remote Key Fob

Description: When you stand near the rear of the car and press & hold the middle boot "release" button on the key fob, the boot will open and rise after a 0.8 second (800ms) delay. This coding can change the delay to a longer value (e.g. 2.0 seconds (2000ms))
Notes: Only tested on a Q7 4M with Advanced Key option but should work on any. Value only tested is 2000ms. Not sure what maximum value can be or if value can be lower than 800ms
Usage: Use with middle boot/trunk release key on key fob
Risk: Low
Software: VCDS

Adaptive Cruise Control Distance Regulation Set

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that are fitted with ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) you can set the default "Distance" the ACC sets to when you enable ACC. The Default value is "3 Lines".
Notes: Will only work in cars with Adaptive Cruise Control fitted. Do not attempt if you dont have ACC. If you have HUD (Head Up Display) it will flash up the distance level you have set when you switch the ignition on.
Usage: Once MMI rebooted (see above), go into Car/Driver Assist/Audi Adaptive Cruise Control. You should see a new menu called "Basic Setting" (It might be called "Standard Setting" if your in the USA). Choose this to set the Distance Level from 1 to 5 (each one representing a "line"). Finally. once set, push the ACC stalk all the way out (towards front of car) so its fully off. Click it back in. This switches ACC "off" and "on" and is needed to pick up the new setting.
Risk: Medium
Software: VCDS / VCP (Others may work)

Lock/Unlock "Chirp"

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars in the USA, when you lock the car, you will hear a single or double "chirp" (from a second sounder, not the horn). This is a good audible confirmation that the car is locked. This coding enables lock chirp on Non-USA cars but also enables an "unlock" chirp if/when the car is unlocked.
Notes: There are many options to configure including how long the chirps are, whether you want single or double chirps for lock/unlock as well as updating the indicator flashes to match the number of chirps. There is both Long Coding & Adaption Changes for this modification.
Usage: Once coded it will work immediately on lock/unlock. In addition, if you lock the car (if you have Advanced Key) using the padlock button on the trunk, the chirp will sound when the trunk is fully engaged. You can also turn off the "Chirp" via the MMI under Car / Vehicle Settings / Central Locking
Risk: Medium / High (Depending on number of options you change). Please note there are a lot of combinations below so please GO SLOWLY.

Description: By Default Q7 (4M) cars that have the electric steering column option, the drivers seat will move back automatically when the car is turned off and the drivers door is opened to allow easy exit of the vehicle. In addition, when unlocking the car and opening the drivers door the drivers seat will move back to allow easy entry and upon starting the car the seat will move forward back to the last position. If you have Convenience/Advanced Key and Driver Memory seats then when you start the car the seat will move to whatever memory recall is stored on the key used to unlock the car (linked with button 1 or 2 of the driver memory seat buttons in the door trim). This change enables this feature when the electric steering column is not installed.
Notes: This has not been tested on a Q7 4M without driver memory seat buttons, but it should work. Also, you may find the Easy Entry option "greyed out" in the mmi. If so, lock the car, wait 30 seconds then unlock and try the menu option again.
Usage: Once configured get out at lock the car and wait 30 seconds, go back into car and start electrics, you should see Easy Entry option under "Vehicle Settings / Seats / Drivers Seat". Make sure its ticked.
Risk: Low.

Disable Child Lock on Rear Heating Controls when Child Lock buttons enabled in Drivers door

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that have the "Deluxe" rear heating controls (in the middle between the front seats with the LCD display etc), if you have the Child Lock buttons switched on via the driver's door buttons to stop the rear doors from being opened from the inside, this also disables the rear heating controls from being used. Instead when you attempt to use them a "Padlock" symbol is displayed. This change disables that so the rear doors can still be child lock "protected" but the rear heating controls will work.
Notes: Only tested on the "Deluxe" rear heating controls with the LCD screen and the red/blue heater controls.
Usage: Enable the Child Lock buttons on the drivers door trim by the window up/down controls and the rear doors will be child lock protected from opening from the inside, however the rear heating controls will still be changeable.
Risk: Low

If using ODBEleven you may need to "reboot" the HVAC Rear Module (Module 28) using the reboot option in ODBEleven. I dont have ODBEleven but there should be one. Otherwise you may find the rear HVAC controls just Flashing on/off.

I used the following and worked a treat:

Rip to Jukebox,
Seatbelt disable
Needle Sweep.

Some of the tings I am looking for which I have done on previous models are:

- Having the electric seats move back when you leave the vehicle and then into location when you hit the start button (makes it easier for old people to leave the vehicle!).
- Having the lane assist last for longer before it asks you to put your hands on the steering wheel.
- Have the Boot Close with the button on the keyfob.

Not sure if any of these are available yet. I will have a play when I get my OBDEleven :)

Hi Andy

I haven't got my car yet, but I do check this thread regularly and will be using some of these. I really appreciate the effort you have gone to pulling this information together in a well organised way.

I have an OBDEleven on order.

Hi Andy.
Pretty much all of your mods work with OBDELEVEN
I even managed to change the time it takes to press the button to open the boot. So all good here. While I was digging I played a bit with these settings

I was hoping to enable the closing from remote too.
The descriprions seem to suguest that distance from the car is a factor but I couldn't quite work it out.
BTW... Did you ever get a working OBDELEVEN device?

STill working on that closing boot stuff Wolek.. its just finding the time!

ODBeleven arrived last week - Q7 arrives tomorrow - so some weekend playing planned.

Have you seen this forum? [V5] ProBoards - Free Forums & Free Message Boards (http://obdeleven.proboards.com/thread/164/coding-adaptations) - have you tried these? Do you know if they are for the old Q7 or the new model?

Thanks Jon,

Yes, sadly they are for the old 4L model. Some may work, but chances are more than likely they either dont exist or arent needed on the 4M. I personally havent tried them.

I thought the lap timer just gave you a stopwatch on the dash? Can you choose this on the HUD settings now then?

On the dash you get the lap timer, but in the HUD you get a new format that includes MPH, Oil temp and gear selection - the timer is also there but doesn't actually run so stays at 00:00:000.

To get this to appear in the HUD, you need to start the lap time and drive off and the display changes. The downside is you lose the Sat Nav info on the HUD but as soon as you stop the lap timer, the HUD changes back to normal .

andyhud007
16-09-2016, 10:47 PM
I haven't worked out why the timer in the hud doesn't run. Very weird.

I'd love to just get the gear display showing with the sat nav info in the hud. Oil temp sits right over the sat nav directions if you flick between them

Seat Symmetry + Passenger Seat Control

Description: For Q7 (4M) cars that have BOTH Driver and Passenger memory seats installed (with the buttons in the doors) you can make both the drivers seat and passenger seat "line up" so they are symmetrical. In addition, you can move the passenger seat using the seat movement buttons on the drivers seat. This change enables these features if you have ONLY Driver Memory Seat installed.
Notes: Not been tested on Q7 4M cars that have neither driver or driver/passenger memory seats installed but it should work.
Usage: Once coded, go into MMI, Car / Vehicle Settings / Seats. A new option for Passenger Seat will have appeared. There will be 2 options inside. One to line both front seats up together, and the other to move the passenger seat with the driver seat movement buttons.
Risk: Medium

Coding: Coming Soon....

This worked for me on USA Q7 using OBDeleven as follows:

In BOTH of these modules: 06/Seat Adj Pax Side and 36/Seat Adj Driver Side

In Coding, set Passenger_seat_adjustment_by_driver_seat to Active. This enables the menu to control pax seat from driver seat controls.

In Coding, set Seat_symmetry_movement to Active. This enables the menu to match pax seat position to driver seat position.

My car DOES NOT have the memory buttons on the passenger side, and this still works.

Can you do a coding and adaption map export for me?

Not sure how to do that with OBD11, or if it can even be done. But I'll look next time I have it out.

In the mean time, I turned on Module 46/Control Comfort Sys > Adaptation > Central Locking Sys: beep at opening and now I have it beeping on unlock.

BUT... it no longer beeps or flashes on lock. HOWEVER, I was getting a battery low warning from the Q7. So maybe that's the problem. Will have to wait til the car is charged and see what's going on.

I tried changing shut_off_foglight_on_high_beam_or_flash in 09/Central Electric from active to not active. Unfortunately, it looks like the front fog lights still go off when high beams go on.

RickOb
23-09-2016, 04:02 PM
Boy do I feel stupid. I was running the battery down while doing all these mods and so I opened the hood to hook up a charger. With the hood open, the car is not fully locked, so of course it made no sound and flashed no lights, even though you could hear the door locks engage. :Blush2:

Turning On Module 46 > Adaptation > central locking system > beep at opening DID enable the chirp on unlock. So I now have single chirp plus flash for unlock and double chirp and flash for lock, just as I wanted.

Thanks for your help!!

BTW, I also change Mod46 > Adaptation > sounder_settings > beep time from 10ms to 60ms and sounder sound from discontinuous to frequency modulated, which together seems to have increased the perceived volume of the chirps (by a little).

2. Road sign recognition with front lane assist camera. You can see the speed limit signs on your dashboard and HUD if installed.

Hi Rick, applied this just now and it does work when on the move. Thanks for the info!!

Just to recap, I have changed the speed from the default 10kph to 20kph (max setting). This means the park assist camera turns off at 12mph instead of 6mph. The main benefit for me is being able to enable it at a higher speed when approaching a blind junction - before with the few seconds it takes to take affect, i had come to a complete stop.

Setting is under 09 - Adaptation - Switch off speed for park assist.

Hi Andy,

Hey P13TRO,

VIM at the moment cant be disabled via standard "coding" at least, not like the old MMI units could based on the serial number of your MMI unit. ODBEleven can disable VIM and after speaking with them they said they are actually writing/changing data directly into the EEPROM within the unit which means they must have got hold of the permissions to gain that ability.

RE closing boot with key without Adv Key, not yet. I have Wolek's coding and I've started to reverse engineer it to see if I can find the differences (as I have adv key). Sadly, there dont appear to be an adaption channels to change this, at least, not that we know of yet. They could be hidden behind another security code we dont know. I have a security code brute force checker which I'll run on mine when I get the chance and if that comes up good we may uncover the adaption channel to change this... assuming its an adaption channel and not coding of course.

Its on my list, I'll keep you posted. Apologies for delay (I'm in US this week also so no car)

Andy

Just a question, on my needle sweep, it's not smooth. What I mean by that is it sweeps to the right nicely and then on way back it kind of jitters / freezes at 3k rev mark and then continues back to 0 normally.

Having watched Andys clip his needle sweep looks smooth throughout.

Any ideas? Shall i turn off and try again? Or just ignore it as it is no biggie even tho I do like watching it everytime [emoji23]

Nemo, assuming you have VC (I'm pretty sure you do) then your not doing anything wrong, mine does it too. Its like booting up a computer, if you wait a bit after getting the car before turning on ignition its smooth, if you jump in car and start car straight away then it either jitters or sometimes doesnt even do the sweep at all...

Same - I think this may be a benefit for those without VC. Most of the time I don't see it when I jump in and hit the ignition.

Highly recommend changing the speed which the cameras switch off. This has been a major benefit for me, I can now pull out of the drive and get to the junction at the end of the road and benefit from the front wide-angle view before they switch off.

CD ripping is also good, the only annoyance is when I rip the latest NOW album for the kids, it takes the first tracks artist and uses it for the whole album.

Thanks all for the needle sweep reply.

Really easy as it's under Adaptation and a field change, rather than switching a bit under coding.

Just go to module 09, select Adaptation, then search for "Switch off speed for park assist". Default setting is 10 ( kph so 6 mph) and the max you can set it to is 20.

Setting it to 20 means the camera stays on until you hit 13mph. Also means you can turn it on at the faster speed when your approaching a blind junction etc

Did some playing around today and found the following tweaks, some are nice to have some are preference and some might be unnecessary but here they are:

Turns on low beam as well as high beam when you flash people with headlights off(didn't think this was necessary until someone almost turned left into me right after, the more light the better)
09 - Central Electrics
Coding -> lowbeam_at_flash-> activate

There was also a DRL config option in coding here that allowed the DRL to dim into the turn signal instead of an abrupt off(NAR is abrupt off). I don't know what else it will do so beware.
09 - Central Electrics
Coding->drl_at_indication_config->dimming_to_sl

Activate rear tail lights with DRL in Auto mode
09 - Central Electrics
Coding->signiturelight_config-> signaturelight_with_tailight

Turn off range limiter for comfort window system
46 - Central Module Comfort System
Coding->comfort_operation_range_limitation->not active

(I didnt mess with these cause I like the somewhat limited lock/unlock range)
Deactivate Key Lock Range
46 - Central Module Comfort System
Coding->range_limitation_lock-> not active

Deactivate Key opening Range
46 - Central Module Comfort System
Coding->range_limitation_opening-> not active

There is also settings for automatic_opening and automatic_closing in module 46's coding, but did not mess with it, probably does what it says.

The next is simply preference from one person to another but I though it'd be worth mentioning (cause I never use the telephone tab)

Under 17 - Dash Board in coding you can turn off almost all the data tabs, Audio, Telephone, Navigation, and they won't show up in the VC anymore, more just a cleaning up feature than anything.

Hey Andy

Is there an option where the boot lid can't be opened without opening the car first?

My son has learned how to press the buttons on the remote and its worrying when i have to keep checking to find out he's opened the boot.

On my previous bmw you had to have the car opened before it responded to the boot opening.

Would be good if we could replicate this for the Q7.

Thanks

I successfully activated High Beam assist on my Premium Plus B9 A4 with no driver assist features, confirming all the camera functions are available on every model.

I did so on OBDEleven via Modules A5 and 09, BUT this function needs to be accessed and turned on in the MMI before it can function. None of the current coding solutions have access to the MMI checkbox that I could find so I took the coding from a Q7 with driver assist (courtesy of RickObe, thank you!) in this VCDS thread (http://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-mkii-discussion-211/obdeleven-2906323/) and put it into my car (noting my previous coding) and it made the option pop up already checked, it also threw up a lot of fault codes. So I just put my original coding back in and it kept the auto high beam assist on, that is when I made the coding changes and had a chance to test it tonight and it works flawlessly!

I'm assuming that it is like the Active Lane Assist retrofits where it just needs to be turned on once to activate. Here is the coding, note that I had tried the coding before I had entered the Q7 coding and it did not work (and once I reverted back to mine the option was gone from MMI but function still worked).

UPDATED TO INCLUDE MMI OPTION:

STG 09 - Central Electrics
Coding->high_beam_functions->high-beam assistant

STG A5 - Front Camera Driver Assist ->High-Beam_Assist->Active

STG 09 > mmi_fla_glw_mxb > active

Im really close to enabling Traffic Sign Recognition and then will get Active Lane Assist hopefully!

Hi Mitch

Not sure about he US configurations but the premium plus model you have doesn't have high beam assist? That might be similar to my SE which sounds like great news.

I thought there was a seperate camera module just behind the rear view mirror which you got if you had high beam assist (according to the pictures) have included a picture of my SE (without having high beam assist). Can someone with s-line confirm if the camera is behind the rear view mirror

Is this similar to yours, if so this sounds great!

Thanks

Isnt there an option under Central locking in the MMI that says dont unlock boot when unlocking car? (or something like that)?

I dont know of a way (yet) about it from a coding perspective however.

Hi Andy

Yeah tried that all it does is disable the boot opening using the button on the boot (which is stupid really!).

Was also thinking that the ambient parking might be a configuration option as I don't have ambient lighting but u do have the advanced parking and the location lights can switch to red and white, so thought the ambient might be a coding one as well.

It might be coding, but I'll look into it. I have a sneaking suspicion there is a different lighting "controller" (physical box) in the car also.. but I could be wrong. I'll do some snooping

Sadly not, its licensed with an online check-in to Audi HQ to have it enabled. There are a few "folk" around the world who claim they can get around that, but it involves sending your MMI unit within your glove box to them for open heart surgery to make it work.

Only other choice is to hassle Audi UK to make it happen

Here is the coding and adaptations that I used to activate Audi Active Lane Assist, I am not making any promises or assuming responsibility, code at your own risk, But it worked perfectly for me. I do get a few faults but I think it is due to me trying to activate Traffic Sign Recognition.

You will get a few bings from your car about Pre Sense Malfunction, these will all go away once you are done. This will activate the self steering, steering wheel vibration, and lane crossing warning. Do all the coding then do adaptations.

ALL Coding:

A5 - Frt Sens. Drv. Assist
HC>Active | Byte 16>Bit 7
STA>Active | Byte 16>Bit 5
EFP>Active | Byte 12>Bit 3

17 - Dash Board (One of these may already be on, make sure both are)
Lane Assistant>Active | Byte 4>Bit 6
Lane Change Assistant>Active | Byte 5>Bit 3

09 - Central Electrics
Heading Control Config>heading_control | Byte 35>Bit 0

44 - Steering Assistance
Heading Control Assistant>Active | Byte 2>Bit 7

ALL ADAPTATIONS:

5F - Information Electronics

Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2>menu_display_Lane_Departure_Warning = Set Value to “Activated”

Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2>menu_display_Lane_Departure_Warning_over_threshold _high = Set Value to “Activated”

Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2>LDW_HCA_0x19> Set Value to “Activated”

Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-LDW_HCA_0x19_msg_bus> Set Value to “Terminal 15”

A5 - Frt Sens. Drv. Assist

BAP Personalization = Set Value to “Not Activated”

Personalization of lane dept. warning Cl. 15 on = Set value to “Last Setting”

System mode, lane depart. warn, = Set Value to “Selection via menu”

Switch-on condition, lane depart. warn. = Set value to “On” (I had to toggle this as this is the final step that I believe mimics pressing the button to actually activate it. You know it was successful when the Lane markings show up in the VC)

You can tweak the vibration intensity, warning time, and steering effort in the A5 adaptations.

Coding thread updated - Seat Symmetry Options for cars without Passenger Seat Memory switches

For some reason the B9 doesn't have passenger seat control. I don't know why as I have the same power seats as our Q7. Any idea where else this would be located in other modules?

Apologies if this is already discussed, but I was wondering if there is way to permanently disable the automatic start/stop function? I'm receiving my Q7 next week on Wednesday and ODBEleven is on it's way, and this would definitely be something I'd like to adjust.

This was posted somewhere. Don't know that it's been tested or verified. (I have not tried it.)

Ok, thanks. Will have a look at it next week and post my findings here.

Some of the tings I am looking for which I have done on previous models are:

- Having the electric seats move back when you leave the vehicle and then into location when you hit the start button (makes it easier for old people to leave the vehicle!).

MicaBlue,

I can confirm this is possible but only if you have the electric steering column fitted (as coding is on that module)

Cheers

Andy, Do you have the coding to make the seats move along with the electric steering column?

Andy is there anyway to increase the volume of the indicator stalk. It seems to be less responsive to turn off unless you do a hard 90 degrees in my car, and you can barely hear the indicator.

PaperEyes.. you mean the tick/tock when indicating?

It might be, but I'll be honest, not even looked... we can add to list, but it may be a hardware thing (where the speaker is fixed at its volume). I believe it comes from the same speaker that is behind the VC cockpit that does the beeps at you if there is a fault/low fuel etc.

Andy,

Using OBDeleven, I was able to enable the MMI option to turn on/off auto locking at 9mph as you drive away:

Module 46/Control Module Comfort System

auto_lock_not_at_mmi (4th from last entry)

Sorry, not sure what Byte/Bit this is.

This is your long coding from Module 46 right??: 013706010000000013111102000A00332F001BE701700100BE

If so your Byte 4 looks blank (I've highlighted it in bold above). As in no "bits" are ticked which is why its "00"

This implies you have no alarm in your car as Standard. Is it a standard UK car?

1) Enable the "Tone when Locking" option in the MMI by checking byte 4 / bit 6 - great that you can just turn off in the MMI
2) Enable adaptation "beep_at_opening"
3) Set adaptation "beeptime_opening_central_locking" to "single_beep"

Hey everyone

So I thought it would help Andy (who's been doing a brilliant job deciphering scans and coding) if we put down all the options we got with our cars.

I had a ready made XLS I created for when I was choosing mine and just expanded it.

Couple of notes:

I've only focused on putting down the options which I think would impact coding (so didn't choose wheel size or upholstery type etc)
The packages can be confusing so I've just listed out the individual components
If I've missed anything please add in or let me know

If we could all fill this in (especially those that have given their scans over to andy on the meet up) I'm sure it will help speed up the process.

Its an open shareable file on google docs, so simply add in your user name and type in your option

Here are some pics of mine before the recall mod. Seems you are right, the new bracket sits in the center on the little hump. That's good for me... I use the space on either side of the hump to store stuff, but don't need the space right above the hump. Interesting that the wire runs are different between the two vehicles.

BTW, I took that foam piece out of mine permanently. I stashed the tire repair bottle and pump under the 3rd row seat. Now I have room for all the other stuff that I used to keep in the under-floor tray in my 2012 Q7.

Mica - yes, I think all q7's require it unless they were fixed prior to delivery. I can't remember when this recall was raised but think it was 4-6 weeks ago.

Or.. unless you're in a country that allows you to decline the 3rd row seat.

I saw it was a service-recall the last time I logged into MyAudi. Not had a notification from the dealer though.

No worries PaperEyes.. good to meet you also!

I have :

Yours
Nemo's
Fear's
Wolek's
Satyb's
Elrao's
Sven's

I really have enough coding now, the problem is I need Adaptation Channel maps, but I dont know (Wolek may know) if ODBEleven can do Adaption Channel Map exports. You recall I got some of yours from your car the other day, but I didnt grab from the others the other week :(

Cheers

Andy

I had a go at exporting the Adaptation Channel Maps on OBDeleven earlier. Here are the steps to do it. You need to do the backup for each channel. The ones Andy requested were:

5F
A5
3C
CF - can't access. I've emailed OBDeleven to see if there is a fix in the pipeline
46
09
17

Go into the channel, and select Backup (3C in this screenshot)

31963

Give the backup a name and click START

31964

31965

Repeat for each Channel, then..

Go back to the "My Car" section from the main menu and click on History

31966

You can then see all the backups for each channel plus any changes you've made. Click on the mail icon at the top right to email the backups to yourself (txt attachment).

Can't fault OBDeleven for their customer service, they reply really quickly and at all times of the day.

I needed to clear data from Android settings which fixed it: Clear app data - YouTube (https://youtu.be/ruWBc-Q5eso)

I also removed the Bose Sub from my compartment for more room, currently have a Alpine PWE-S8 that I removed the integrated amp, rewired the speaker to 2.6ohm and hard wired it. I have the bass for the sub in the MMI all the way up for it to work good and it is a tight fit under the driver side 3rd row seat. The stock sub I measured 1.6ohm and just ordered a Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 8-inch which I'm going to wire for 1ohm and see if the works better.

On another forum some one was asking to to Lock / Unlock with FOB while engine is running, It can be done with OBDeleven and the VCDS coding is below:

This is the VCDS coding for Locking / Unlocking vehicle with Key FOB while the engine is running.

My stock Byte 9 Hexadecimal was 0B and the mod is 8B

I also am installing a remote start from Avenue Sound in Freeport, NY, they said it's working with the original key FOB, I'm going to try and install myself when it comes in.

Hey JoeRez, and welcome!

Thanks for the above, I was talking to a couple of guys in Russia about this also and they did a quick video on it here: Link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGzyRfvMidM)

Seems like a very simple Mod to me...

Thanks Joerez! Very handy now the weather is starting to get colder (especially as no aux heater this year!)

I just enabled this and it works immediately without having to switch of the ignition etc.

One thing I noticed is, you can lock the car with the fob or touching the handle (if you have advanced key), however you need to use the unlock button on the key - touching the handle or boot doesn't unlock. I'm happy with this and probably a good safety feature.

Thanks again

I noticed that after locking with the engine running, the boot is not locked UNLESS you set "Disable tailgate handle" to ON in the MMI central locking section. (US 2017 Q7 Prestige)

Hi Rick,

I just checked mine and "Disable tailgate handle" isn't checked but the boot is also locked. If I press the boot button on the key, the boot pops open slightly, but I need to touch the handle for it to open completely. At this point, all the doors remained locked and required the unlock button to be pressed on the key. Shutting the boot locked it again.

There seem to be three bits in Module 46 coding in OBDeleven that "may" affect this:

central_locking_sys_lock_unlock_at_eng_running

auto_lock_not_at_mmi (4th to last entry)

auto_lock & auto_unlock

(Mine are currently set to not active, not active and active respectively)

Not sure if some combo of these may be the reason, or the fact that I have the Viper remote start wired in and that is affecting it.

Some one from another forum who has a remote start was asking about the range on the Audi FOB isn't good, I posted this in regards to range limitations of the Audi FOB

This is the VCDS coding for Removing Key FOB Range Limitation.

Address 46: Central Conv.

UnCheck Bit 1 Range Limitation Lock
UnCheck Bit 2 Range Limitation Rear?
UnCheck Bit 3 Range Limitation Opening
UnCheck Bit 4 Range Limitation Panic

I just UnChecked all 4, but never did testing to see if actual range is gained. If someone can do a unlock / lock test to see what distance it stops working then do this coding and see if range is gained that would nice to confirm.

Hey JoeRez

Yep, I saw those channels too. but not checked to see what those values mean in terms of true distance (for example, does it reflect Centimetres/Inches etc?

I know that boot close using keyfob you need to be close to car by default, but to open boot from keyfob you can be further away

Needs some investigation....

I'll see if I can do this today on mine...

This is regarding steering Wheel Heat

The module is 16 Steering wheel in VCDS or 16 Steering Column Electronics in OBDeleven and this is just an Adaption, no coding necessary

My default value from the Factory was set at 34 degrees and the max value you can change to is 45 degrees. andyhud007 said after speaking with Audi Don't go over 38 degrees may cause damage.

andyhud007

I think this was discussed before and after speaking to Audi on it they said dont set it over 36/38c I recall for potential damage to the steering wheel. Its why I didnt post the coding in the end but good luck!

Mine was factory set at 34. After Andy's comment about possible damage, I decided to leave it as is until it got cold enough to want to use it. Now that I've used it a few times on cold mornings, I'm finding that 34 is just fine. It's gets nice and warm. Not sure I'd want it any higher.

Andy,

Don't know if you've seen this one. In OBD11, Module 36/Seat Adjustment Driver Side >Long Coding, I change easy_entry_front and easy_entry_fond from Not Active to Active. Now my seat slides back a bit when I open the driver door. I have no idea what the "fond" bit means or whether it was necessary to make this change.

Great spot Rick, can't see I saw that one yet... Do you have memory seats on the drivers side too? Does the seat move back to its original position once you get in/out or something like that?

Looking through the guides, the "easy entry" on the seats only worked (apparently!) if you had the electric steering column. do you have that?

Thanks

Andy

RickOb
23-11-2016, 01:29 PM
I have a Prestige trim, so I have electric seats with memory and the electric steering column, but not the Luxury Pkg seats. The steering column always moved up when getting out before this change, but not the seat.

I think the seat moves back to the original position when you turn on the ignition.

What "guides" are you referring to?

andyhud007
23-11-2016, 01:35 PM
Ah ok. Here in the UK the Electric Steering Column is a single optional extra which is quite rare.

My understanding is the "easy entry/exit" drivers seat only works if you have electric steering column (as its that that drives the seat module to move back) which makes sense as you have it.

I do think a couple of UK folk did plump up for the Electric Steering Column though...

Guides are my internal Audi technical ones...

I think I've found a way to effectively disable auto start/stop:

In OBDeleven, Module 08/Air Conditioning > Adaptation > A/C_comfort_paramter_for_start/stop_function: change default value of 5 to 0 (zero).

After making this change and driving for a day, it seems as though start/stop would not engage under circumstances when it normally would. It would always display the white A in a circle with a slash icon.

If I turned the HVAC all the way off, and also turned off seat heat and ventilation, then the start/stop would engage for a split second and then immediately re-start the engine. As long as the HVAC was on, it would not engage at all.

I have to play with it some more. I want to try a value like 2 or 3, and maybe 10 to see what the effect is.

Want to add some info on second phone coding:

IDE03471-ENG125046-Vehicle configuration-Phone_module_operation_mode - mode of phone modem (data only / data&phone) - in Russian version switched to data mode only. This provide to use sim slot as full phone. I tested - it worked in both ways

IDE03471-ENG125042-Vehicle configuration-Support_of_threeway_calling - is threeway conference mode between prim. and sec. phone (not tested yet) (it can switched in mmi menu).

IDE03471-ENG125044-Vehicle configuration-Support_for_response_and_hold - not sure but may be allow hold phone call?

Yep, we have tested those and the 3 way calling (at least on UK cars) doesnt work. Let us know if you get any luck. We get the option in MMI but that is all.

When we enabled response and hold it caused errors in module 5f I believe.

Hey Rick, thats a great find

VCP have now released a Guided Function to disable Start/Stop permanently but we are trying to find out what they are doing to do that. Start/Stop can be "tricked" if you can keep 12v constantly supplied (via Coding) I've heard. Just not had time to test to be honest.

Be great if you manage to uncover further values. Thanks for sharing!!

There's a manual Start/stop option on the dashboard. At least there is in my car. If the LED is alight, then the Start/Stop is disabled. There are so many parameters for automatic start and stop, it's probably best to read pp 94-97 of the manual.

I thought I read somewhere recently the ability to re option config, so that the standard remote keyfob/control could be used when the engine was running.
Thus allowing the car to be started / warmed on these colder winter mornings, whilst being able to relock it with remote from outside of vehicle.

Though I've googled repeatedly and browsed history but cannot locate any sign of such ... it seemed to have input from someone that was looking to also add remote start as I recall.

Any pointers on the config that's needed or if it's even possible on the 4M?

Thanks

I did a trade in to upgrade to hex-net. You need hex net to see all modules on the mlbevo platform in new cars like q7 4m.

Odbeleven sees most modules now (not all but most) but you use your smartphone to do coding etc.

Hi Andy, do you think it is possible to code remote boot closure on non-advanced key cars? This is the only thing that is continuing to bug th e hell out of me.... I just don't understand why Audi don't have this by default....:1zhelp:

Thanks for taking a look.... for some reason, my toddler always manages to press the boot button on the key fob and it's a pain in the backside to have to go out to the car and press the button on the tailgate. Never have a problem with the BMW fob as its harder to press the button. It's also handy to be able to close the boot remotely when carrying a load of shopping into the house...

I hate to bring bad news but its not possible without changing the boot closure module. It isn't a coding issue. On the plus side, I had my module changed at Hazzy Dayz and now it works :)

I can look at Google street view when my vehicle is parked , as soon as I start driving a message comes up along the lines of "for safety reasons street view can only be viewed when stationary"

is there any way round this so street view can be seen whilst the vehicle is in motion?

( I have enabled VIM but it makes no difference)

Many thanks

Ignore this, It has been back to Hazzy Dayz and they have now coded the original module. See my thread specifically about this.
