2003 5.0 v10 confirmation needed please as to the oil required I have been told 505.10 is this correct?

There is no 505.10 , but there is 505.01 , however this is a medium quality oil and 507.00 is higher quality .

Thanks Gazwould since I posted managed to see a touareg 5.0 v10 spec book on internet and it does say 505.01 as you say
but are you suggesting I use 507 as its better quality?

Most definitely and a fraction thinner , by the smallest of margins .

Recommended oil spec was revised a good while ago to 506.01 only, regardless of chosen service regime.
You cannot use 507 in a pre 2006 V10 or R5

Now here's the crack !

VW are capable of saying the strangest nonsense .

For instance...

LongLife intervals
Life fluid gearbox oil
505.01 is low ash C3 , dpf friendly except for vag dpf
Non dpf fixed use 505.01 for LongLife variable use 507.00

Why on earth couldn't you use high quality , dpf friendly , LongLife , PD , 507.00 , VW's best performing oil ?

:dunno: if you ever find an official answer l'd love to know !

why would you risk a beast of an engine like the V10 and its potentially huge repair costs?

can't find anything more recent than this....

"*All diesel vehicles fitted with R5 (5 cylinder) and 5.0ltr V10 engines and
manufactured prior to 1 January 2006, cannot use oils meeting Volkswagen standard
507 00 even if equipped with a DPF. These engines should use oils meeting
Volkswagen standard 506 01 (eg. Castrol Professional Longtec LongLife II 0W-30) for
both LongLife and Time and Distance servicing regimes."

Like I said VW are capable of saying the strangest nonsense.

BS for short , lol .

Must want to sell the old LongLife spec .

No risk using 507.00 , believe me .

I can't think for the life of me why you could not use 507.00 LongLife as it out performs 506.01 and 505.01 .

I had taken an interest in this some time ago having previously owned an R5. The subject has been discussed to death on various forums and the consensus is that until VW say otherwise 506.01 is the oil to use.

I have a copy of a letter received from VW where their technical dept confirm that 506:01 must be used. Unfortunately no reason is given.
It's not mine to reproduce but I was copied it from a guy that was in a dispute with a VW dealer that had filled his V10 Touareg with 507 in error.

Whatever we think, I doubt V10 owners would sleep easy using an oil that was specifically excluded even if it is somewhat of a mystery as to why.

I'd love to know why .

Very clear the reasons and understandable why certain oils are for PD and DPF .

But this VW statement is a mystery , I treat it as being on the same level as manual gearbox oil being a snake oil "life fluid."

There is no rhyme nor reason , that's clueless and lying VW for you ;)
