Hi all just discovered this useful main forum as I've just bought a 2003 A4 2.0 B6 in great condition.

However I still have a Type 43 1982 100CS blue/silver two tone I bought in 1994 for £50 and a 100GL5E I bought in about 1986 or so which have been in storage for years the rust bug finally becoming too much. One day I'll get around to restoring them but still unbelievably unable to find another Type 43 100CS two tone anywhere on the Net etc. for some reason....?

Has anyone ever seen one or got any links or pics they could post ?

Thanks :)

I used to work on those when they were nearly new.....

Great cars and incredibly reliable, especially my two automatics above only breaking down twice during all those years and both from fuel vapourisation !

Did you ever see or hear of a two tone because from the limited info I have a few were made right at the very end of the Type 43 run and I believe only for export....?

I remember in around 84 working on a 2.1 injection which had a hot starting problem (fuel pump check valve) and that was blue and silver. The customer asked us to thoroughly test it before giving it back (may others had let him down) so as I was taking a young lady out to dinner than night, it had a thoroughly good test....

Very interesting thanks ! :)

I'm even beginnning to wonder if it's the same car as mine's also a 2 litre (not being mechanically minded it might have been injection) which I bought in Honiton from a woman who lived in Exmouth with 5 former keepers before that. Recognise anything....?

In the pics I put in a pair of front seats from a 200 that was being scrapped in Taunton otherwise that's the only change since I bought it.

Hi, I originally had problems with both my 80's Type 43 cars back in the day for what I think from memory was fuel vapourisation. My current 2003 Audi avant manual is now having the same problems as well so is this a common fault for them ? If so I really need to find a cure....

As for both Type 43s I'll be at long, long last getting them completely restored down in Cornwall as they’re now both very rusty. So will either need to find lots of spares or have them made by the restorers on site.

Thanks

That is the ALT code engine which has extremely high pressure direct injection and is computer controlled, any problem solving must start with a code read, print, clear, drive and re-read, really only taking notice of codes that return.

The garage is saying that it's possibly due to the recent hot weather a couple of weeks or so ago, and are waiting for the next one which is forecast in a week or two. Meantime they're testing it out on the road followed by a van with a trailer just in case it does break down.

Not a techie, but they're using a computer sized gadget plugged into a socket beneath the steering wheel which can identify faults, problem being it's still not breaking down. The biggest danger being that it could breakdown at any time especially when crossing a busy dual carriageway, and why they can't do anything until it does it again nor understandingly let me drive it myself.

Are they getting any fault codes? When it breaks down, does it recover on its own after a cool down?

Yes....

If there are no fault codes and it recovers after cooling down the first thing I would replace is the crank speed sender. You can get a clue to this in that when it losses power, look at the rev counter and see if the display is relevant to the inertia of the car turning the engine, if it drops to zero and the engine is still turning then that is a very good indicator of a faulty G28 crankshaft speed sender

Great thank you as the garage hadn't suggested that, roll on Tuesday....
