Driving home the other day my work horse suddenly lost power and was spewing black smoke out of the back. Looking under the bonnet a 4" hose that goes from a small radiator (intercooler?), up and round the back of the engine had split at a joint near to the oil dipstick. I slotted it back together and all was good and I found that it didn't come back apart very easily! After running for another 30 miles I checked the hose and it's started to come apart again. It seems from other threads to be a common problem, however I'm having difficulty finding the correct part. Can anyone help point me in the direction of the part numbers of the hose/hoses I need to replace and any other bits I need e.g. clips.

Any help much appreciated!

Part number 10 on this drawing? It's listed in ETKA as 3B0145834N. Type that number into EBay, though I think that hose is relatively affordable from VW as an original part, not like number 5 which is £125!!!

Hi MiniMental

Thanks for the reply, managed to get to work OK but it was coming away again!

Could I also ask about the part numbers 20A, 22, and 27 in the diagram. What ere they and will these need changing as well?

They are seals and are a few quid each from dealers less than a fiver each

The clip and socket design isn't very good and the hoses cost a fortune.

How about a repair for less than £5 ?

Two exhaust clamps, a 65mm and 70mm and then either weld some nuts on as I have for the most elegant solution or you can join them with cable ties.

Hi Col
Thanks for the suggestion, a very good solution to a poorly designed fitting!

Unfortunately I don't have any welding gear so I'd be relying on cable ties, plus I've already bought the hose.
