Anybody else got a message to upgrade in car to 2016/2017 maps? I don't want to download via mobile due to my data allowance but normally going to myAudi allows me to download it on to SD card. However in myAudi is states my map is up to date and no options to download (or even redownload even though that is supposed to be unlimited times)

I did upgrade about a month or so ago when I visited myAudi as it seemed to suggest an update however this was definitely 16 rather thatn 16/17 as it prompted me in the car.

Anybody got the correct version numbers and a method of getting to the download? I did see one site that suggested a direct link on myAudi by changing the URL but can't find it via Google.

Thanks :)

Hi ChuckMountain- I'm glad you posted because I thought I was going mad! Like you, I was prompted by the MMI yesterday to update my maps. So when I came indoors I downloaded the maps onto my SD card and this morning went to install them. It turns out that the maps installed are the very same version as the maps, like you perhaps, I installed a month ago!
I'll try and post some pics in a second but the navigation database I have has the following version reference: V03959801FA 0134 ECE2016.

The software version is: MHI2_ER_AU57x_K2519_2.

When I realised I had basically downloaded and installed the same version as I already had, I went back to myAudi to download the new version - thinking I had made a mistake somehow and downloaded the old version. That's when I also discovered that myAudi was now saying that my maps were already up to date.

So, my conclusion was that some sort of technical glitch happened to suggest a new set of maps was available. Or, that technical glitch continues which is why they have removed the 'wrong' downloads from being downloaded again. Who knows?!

Glad its not just me then :D

I have just checked my car software and that's version MHI2_ER_AUG11_P0034 which is different to yours no idea which one is newer but my car was registered in Jul 2015 so built sometime before then and I have only ever updated the Nav via SD.

Checking the maps then I am also V03959801FA 0134 ECE 2016 so same edition of that and that lists the individual maps as Country 2016.

Checking updates online in the car gives me the option Country 2016/2017 so looks like there is definitely something newer available.

What's annoying is that the car will let you reinstall the same version without prompting you to say its the same version as what you have are you sure....

A couple of other people are saying on an A3 thread they are having the same issue on the myAudi site so I wonder if it is another glitch. Last time the updates were released I remember having to enter the URL directly as the map service just didn't seem to appear and there appeared to be a bug.

Hopefully will fix it or find a way to get to the download URL ...

Mine is a MY15 that I collected in May last year. I think the difference between our software versions is probably down to an MMI update I had done at a recent service last month (as opposed to a change that will be caused by newer maps).

Good idea to check if the car itself is still promoting for an update - I will check tomorrow and if it is, check again on myAudi. Hopefully the new working week will have some IT folk at Audi resolving the glitch and pushing us updated maps...

Having only just recently pushed out an update, I wonder whether this further update (if it exists) is a sort of bug fix for the sorts of errors that have been spotted, eg. references to Newcastle in Lyme...?

P.S. Yes, I'm pretty sure the 'new' version I downloaded was same as 'old'. After the update a month or so ago, I took a picture of the software version. This morning I did the same after the 'new' installed and then checked the two photos. Both have same versions for maps. Sadly. I was rather hoping and expecting it was me who had made the error in downloading the 'old' instead of the new.

My (MyAudi) also only shows the 2016 maps, I guess the direct MMi download is more updated than the website.

I did the same over the weekend... installed what I thought would be the 2016/2017 maps from MyAudi, and they hadn't been updated so ended up re-installing the 2016 version.

The car says 2016/2017 is available, but not doing a 12gb download on a 3gb data card :)

If Audi wanted to make in-car updates viable they would develop a system that creates a Delta for the map database - i.e. a package that only downloads the changes since the last download, which would be a small file. Forcing users to update the entire database is ridiculous.

I assume they don't use a Delta, I've not wanted to attempt the car download, as the files downloaded from MyAudi are huge, and that is the same update path?

Yep same here - I've got an A6 (2016) and it's also telling me there is an update available "in car" but nothing showing on the website... good to know I'm not alone :o

I decided to update just the England maps, broken into North and South components, using the data sim in car. I figured a week was long enough for Audi to sort the MyAudi site!

Anyway, the two England maps are just under 1Gb - took me about 15 mins to install. Haven't noticed anything hugely different but I'll be able to see whether a few recent road changes are now marked up when I head out later.

The updated software version is as below - the 'FA' ending is now 'FB' and there's a 2017 reference added on too.

Hi ,

This is how I got the update of the website earlier this year. Guess it should till work.

Log on to myaudi.com. Then click Audi Connect, then click "display available services". This will open the page with Twitter service etc listed. Then click the Twitter service. The address bar will be something like this

Obviously with the VIN in place of the question marks. Delete the twitter off the end of the line and replace with mapcare, so it looks like this

Hit enter and the 2016 map package will appear. NOTE= do not just copy and paste my links, it wont work.

This worked for 2016 updates but not for the current 2016/17.

The car says there's an update, the myaudi portal says "the navigation system on your vehicle is up to date"

Think we just have to wait for the offline update to come available.

Looks like its available now on myAudi. Am downloading it as we speak albeit slower than my normal connection :) :(

Thanks for the heads up!

Are the Audi servers very very slow? Allowing only 1Mb/s like last time I downloaded updates? Is it just me, but there was a time when Audi's servers enabled a speedier download? At least it's now available.

Yes just having to restart download today as servers are slow, getting a 800kB/s which is terrible for my connection ....

Mine still doesn't show up on my Audi.
Car says there's an update but my Audi says none. Haven't updated the maps since December

I got an email telling me there was a map update and it was there and waiting at myAudi. Perhaps they are rolling it out in some way to prevent overload on their download servers - the download was unbelievably slow.

Getting mine from the Audi website now... getting the complete pack and the 12.9GB download is going at 14.7MB/s :D

These map updates are the most frustrating thing!
The Audi connect servers are really slow. Struggling to get more than 10mb/s and 12gb takes about 2 hours.
Another annoying thing is half way through it asks for username and password and the bloody thing starts the downloads again!
Now trying to update the car with an sd card it gets about 2-3% and it says its interrupted and starts again. Doesn't get past 2-3% no matter what sd card I use or which slots I use!
If they sold pre-downloaded sd cards for £30 I would buy it to save the hassle. Never been so frustrated with something that should be so simple!

Well, as I mentioned earlier, I got a 2017 MAP from Audi as a courtesy. In the service, they informed me, that this is the new version, there is no SD card in the DVD box, just a code, you have to enter to the MMI.

The strange thing is, that I have a non-FL, but a MY2012 car with my.audi enabled, which is fully working.

My problem is, that I haven't got any "MAP UPDATE" or something like this in the my.audi.de/com menu.

By this, I'm really wondering, how will I be informed, that there is an update out there?

Only facelift cars with tech pack get free download, direct to car or via myaudi. Pre-fl cars require download via the dealer (or elsewhere if you can find a reputable source)

Thank you for your answer. Do you know, where can I check, or how I will be notified, if there will be an update?

I think the only official source will be the dealer. Audi does nothing proactive to advise customers with either the RMC or earlier versions of MMI+ of an update. If I recall correctly from what I have read on other posts on here Audi releases a new version of the maps around about this time of year.

Guys. Mine also is my15. Well if you can help me I've tried to get Audi customer service sort it out. Always updated on windows 7 computer. Now on that computer when you log into you account it shows countries such as Russia. Luxembourg Netherlands but not the uk. I have a windows 8 and 10 computers. If I log on on then it shows uk maps. I've saved it and then copied to sd card. Put the sd card in the car. Car knows it's there but then does not download the update. Going through system update does not give me the option of sd card present. Even though the car as already shown the sd card is there on dash screen. Customer service is useless. Windows 7 computer as always worked fine. They want to know what java im running. Surely it wouldn't show me any countries at all. It's just the uk that is missing. Not sure guys. Help !!

@chiad01

So to get this straight:
Windows 7 machine does not show the GB map package
Windows 8/10 does.
Are you downloading the "Complete Package" or "Individual Country Package - Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland"?

You download that, put it on a SD card, put that into the car, and try to do a system update.
The update source does not show SD1 as an option.

Does it work in SD2?
Did you format the SD card before copying the map files onto it? It may be in a state that can't be read by the car, hence it not showing.

I'm on windows 7 with IE11, and can see the individual GB map pack, so it's not a problem with the system as a whole.
Is downloading the entire map package an option on your Win7 machine? As that will have GB included.

If you put music onto the SD card, can the media player see it to play the songs, or is that greyed out too?

In my experience, it has only worked when I download directly to the SD card from the downloader. Saving to desktop, the. Putting on SD card has never worked for me. Also MY 2015.

Yes mate. It's windows 7 i.e. 11. And it shows complete but only limited countries on individual. I've been on windows 8 and 10 it allows me to prepare package and then saved to computer. Copied to sd card and then when the card goes in either slot 1 or 2 it shows it's there because it says no music on the sd card. When I go through mmi system update sd card does not show it's any slot. So frustrating because it's worked in windows 7 last year and updated it. I even tried to do it through connect. I have a separate pay as you go sim in it. It said it was downloading. And kept downloading for hours. Drained the 30 quid I put on the sim and still no map update. Just kept saying downloading. Goes through to 100% and then started again many times. I've contacted customer services but they are useless. Hope that helps.

The update is going to be around 12GB, so that is a lot of data for a mobile broadband PAYG.

When you copy the files from the computer to the SD, are you putting all 4 files at the root of the SD file structure?
Mib1, Mib2, an MD5 checksum file, and metainfo.txt

I think dropping by an audi garage may be in order, and show them it not working when trying to load the update.

Updated mine yesterday. Used the Java tool to download everything which was 13GB onto the computer then copied over to an SD card; nothing special - just formatted with a tool called SDFormatter with FAT32 and copied the files onto the root. Popped into slot 1 and then told it to update. Took about 30 mins and all done.

More or less the same process for me, with the only differences being my SD card is formatted as exFAT and that the update is running as we speak :)
