:D:D

20 mile trip back home from Norwich on a congested A-road.

Very close to the 177 A6 multi and far better than the R.

All in all very happy with what the 218 tank is returning how's your faring up??

Not so good so far! I've been doing short town journeys this week so not a fair comparison with 272 - I hope! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160525/0a06a846cb99cd200e7af19cc048e76a.jpg

I got roughly same result...
2 months, 2000 miles, 20mpg....
272Sline, but mainly City driving with lots of start/stop action... and an occasional 50 mile run on a motorway...

Done 7000 miles so far in our 272 SE and averaged 28.9mpg , our old 2011 242 s line averaged 29mpg over 2 years and would average 40mpg if reset on a long run without really trying too hard , the new one will do slightly more , maybe 43mpg on a flat run but the way you have to drive to achieve that is ridiculous , considering the old car was heavier I would say it had a more frugal engine , the new one has just been designed for the test more and hence the vastly improved mpg figures that just don't manifest in to real driving mpg , a friend bought a new Tourareg and found exactly the same .

I think you're right Chris. My last 3 cars were all 3.0 diesels - 2007 Touareg, 2011 X5 and now the Q7. All averaging 20 mpg for the town driving despite the brochure numbers improving dramatically...

I don't do many miles so not a big issue but it's time the devised a better test to give more real world mpg numbers

I'm 1200 miles in and 2 month old

and set miles and fill via a phone app started 25mpg then 30mpg but last week I'm at 35mpg with mixed driving

i think that's where it will sit 35mpg

think if you drive like a 90 year old and lift freewheel drive heated seats off air con off etc at 60mph on main road possible 40mpg ish
but where the fun in that you might as well get a small car with a 950cc engine lol

if I try short term I've had 42mpg

strange thing is I get better mpg on auto drive rather than e drive

The most I have got was indicated 39.0 over 105 miles with cruise at 55mph. Pretty boring drive but never had to touch the brake.

The long term is 4300 miles and 30.2mpg. I am sure it got better after 2k though and also pretty sure it gets a couple more on premium diesel, but I might just be imagining that.

Here is my long term, well after one week of ownership.

I am genuinely surprised how frugal the car is.

Hang on Pitch! How did you get the mpg gauge in the rev counter? Iv'e not had that on mine, nor did I know you could do it.

When you are in the sort of main info tab on the VC, use options to find additional display and check efficiency of something like that and it will pop up. Check out my finds thread it is on there.

I am finding it very useful

Like Pitch said, on the Red "car info" screen on the VC hit the right arrow button on the left hand side of the steering wheel. Look carefully on the VC and you see will see a Red + icon on the far right hand side. It means there is a context menu to open up. (same goes for left hand side actually)

Some similar numbers to our (now stolen) S4 Avant with a 3.0 S/C Petrol engine (which was probably moving a lot quicker over those miles too)

Well just back from York, 220 mile trip on pretty congested roads although did manage to gallop on parts of the A1.

Overall, 41.5mpg which is nuts for the beast, three up and the boot packed full to the roof and under a thousand miles on the clock. The Q7 is an absolute dream over the well trodden route and a relaxing way to travel.

272 or 218???

I am really happy with my 218 it pulls like a train low down but does run out off puff at a tad over 3k which is where the 272 will certainly keep going I guess. Having said this jumping from the R into the Q7 doesn't feel like driving in treacle like it use to in the A6, but don't be mistaken it is a crazy stupid fast point to point car.

The fuel usage has blown me away though, I was never expecting it to be this good.

Mine is a 272. Did a 70 mile round trip yesterday, mainly on dual carriageway but with a fair few roundabouts along the way. I mostly left it on ACC so it was sticking to speed limits and returned 29mpg. Had it on Comfort with a bit of Efficiency mode so no Dynamic / Sports going on either! I'm doing a decent run out on Friday which will be motorway / dual carriageway so it will be interesting to see what I get then.

Performance wise, I can't fault it though. It feels as quick as my old X5 40d and perhaps quicker when accelerating from 50mph.

Better news from this weekends trip. Got up to 35mpg average doing 40-70mph. That's with the kids bikes on the roof too and given the wind noise, they must have been acting like an air brake!

Was glad to get the roof rack off this afternoon as even with the bikes off, the wind noise was really noticeable in the ultra quiet Q7!

Returned 38mpg on the way back from the detailers tonight - typically I drove under a rain cloud the whole way home with sun beaming either side of me!

Long term is 26mpg after 500 miles. During the week it's all short town journeys though so happy with what I'm getting. I thought I might have made an error in not upgrading the 75l tank but miles per tank is fine

Got a 218ps s line as courtesy car at the moment , had it for two weeks and the mpg is noticeably worse than on my 272ps SE , as obviously is the power , but a bit surprised , I would of thought it to be the other way around re the mpg , maybe because we live in the hills them 218 struggles more and thus uses more fuel .

Quite often it's as good mpg on dynamic mode as it is on any other as long as your in D and Not Sport

a huge factor and not sure why is when the temp dip below about 6deg I loose nearly 4-5 mpg on the same trip

another big factor is having the heated seats on and climate control even when climate is in efficiency

on a a half decent runs single carrage way runs on a 60 mile trip I can get around 36mpg

on a good run duel carrage way no hold ups doing 60 mph I've had 42mpg

short trips around town etc is more like 25-28 mpg

this is on a 272 Q7 S-Line

be interesting to know what mpg you guys are getting on the SQ7

A SQ7 I borrowed for the day I got about 32mpg but that was mixed driving and no duel carriageway long runs
and a lot or quick boosts lol
