Hi Guys,

As per my other thread when an ambulance hit my drivers side wing mirror I have now successfully replaced the LED strip (which broke) using the steps below.

Tools Needed:

T10 Torx Screwdriver
Glass Suction Pad

1. Turn on Car electrics so wing mirrors fold out.
2. Lower driver door window and put soft towels over it and over driver door body work and around the wing mirror "neck"

3. Using the Suction Pad, attach to middle of glass and pull towards you. It will be stiff but if you try to pull the mirror from behind (by angling the glass as far left as possible) you may crack the glass. Audi Workshop manual shows using a suction pad. I got one off Amazon for 5.

(I forgot to take pic so this is the concept on passenger side mirror).

You will notice these 2 plastic lugs on the glass correspond and sit in the brass clips behind.

4. Once the glass is out, note the coloured wires on which connectors (for heating/anti-dazzle) and they just pull off.

30772

5. Using your T10 Torx screwdriver, undo the 5 screws shown below and keep safe. Pull the front plastic cowling off. It just needs a little pull, very easy

30774

6. Once that cowling is off, use your T10 screwdriver again and undo the below 2 screws. The bottom one is recessed so you need a thin Torx screwdriver to get to it. You dont want to try and use a thin screwdriver here and mash the head of the screw up!

7. Once removed, there are 2 plastic "clips" that you push in with your fingers. I forgot to take a pic of these but they are shown below in the workshop manual.

30776

you can see one here below

30777

8. Then the top cowling just comes off. Place safely to one side. Pull it gently towards the front of the car for it to come off

30778

You can see the LED strip now and in my case its cracked and the power connector (yellow connector) has snapped off

30779

9. Round the front again, remove the below 2 screws with your T10 screwdriver. These screws hold the LED bar in place

10. From the front of the wing mirror look down and you can see 2 small tabs. I've tried to mark them below. you need to push them forward one at a time and lift the LED bar gently. They just lightly hold it in place.

30781

11. The LED Bar will then just lift out. Here is my broken one with the new one

30782

12. Take the new LED bar and push it into place. It should clip over the 2 tabs you just pushed forward to remove the old one.

30783

13. I had some of the plastic from the LED bar stuck in the Yellow connector. Pull the red tab "away" from the connector and push down on it. It will release the broken pieces, if any

14. Screw the 2 T10 screws back into the LED bar either side of the wing mirror

30786

Make sure the little clip on the outer edge of the mirror is clipped into the new LED bar.
30787

15. Plug the yellow connector back on. It only goes one way. Test the indicator works!

30788

16. Slide the top cowling back on making sure the clip on the "inside" of the mirror (nearest the door) latches underneath the lower cowling as shown below.

30789

17. Push the cowling home and it will "CLICK" in and screw the 2 other T10 screws in as shown below. You can also see one of the little clips

....18. Push the outer cowling back on over the wires and put back the 5 torx screws

30791

30792
19. Connect the leads back upto the glass and push back in aligning the plastic lugs on the glass to the brass clips inside the mirror

20.. Bosh

Hope it helps!

Andy

Wow - nice post, thanks for sharing and well done for sorting it yourself.
Where did you come by the manufacturer 'manual' diagrams? I could do with looking a few things up myself but haven't been able to find the servicing manuals anywhere yet.

Cheers.. was easy.. only took 15 mins

erWin is your friend, albeit you have to pay a flatrate for access. E.g 7 Euros for an hour. The PDFs are in German also but you can convert them also. They have loads of the 4M Q7
