Good going over with Zymol, a squirt Megs ultimate detailer and it looks pretty good. The dealer clean was carried out perfectly with no swirling whatsoever.

Great looking car. If it wasn't for budget and letting the wife loose with such a big car in London I would have loved a Q7.

Indeed it is Skip. Was a little concerned as I have had two Phantom in the past but it is very deep and does not seem so soft as the metallic. Finish is absolutely fantastic and like Audi's of old.

So glad to hear you say that. I have been worried sick about the solid night black. I know it's a soft paint and will mark easy. I am literally ready to treat the car on Wednesday the moment it's delivered with a ceramic coating to protect it. Just need the paint work wash from the dealer to not cause any swirls. Quick clay and iron x then ceramic coating to protect it.

I also just gave a quick Megs Carnuba Quick Wax all over which was super quick and easy and gave the car an even more darker deep wet look.

I did something similar leaving the Silverstone MotoGP via a 'back route' the marshalls directed us down. Fortunately a £70 machine polish from a local garage fixed it.

I'm hoping it's just the way dirt has collected and settled on the car - racking my brains if I drove in the rain last week somewhere and it's just settled on those rain lines...hope anyway [emoji5]

I bought one of these to get the bikes on the roof rack but also using to clean the roof. I was paranoid about using a normal step ladder with a high handle!

This is the first clean after the Siramik coating was applied. Really pleased on how much easier it is to clean and really only needs a quick dry with the towel.

Also impressed with the Yeti mitt too. Really does draw any dirt away so it can't scratch the paint.

Yeah I love getting my hand in every wash and cleaning the drums looks better.

I had to bin my first mitt last week :-( lasted one month and the hair started pulling away. Not sure I was looking after it well enough. I had bought 2 in error so being more careful with the 2nd. It's important not to let it dry out. See how this one goes.

Every second wash I spray my wheels with ironX amazing stuff, the tar and iron deposits just melt away in a sea of red blood it's fun to watch. Great stuff.

I'm in the same boat wrt checking wheels. I remember picking up our new 4L in 2011 then heading straight to Ghana for four weeks with work. When I got back, ALL FOUR wheels were not just dinged/kerbed but had like four inch gouges and massive debts and scrapes. Apparently it wasn't her and no one else had driven the car. Must've been the wheel fairy with her hammer and chisel.

Still makes my p*ss boil to this day and is still brought up from time to time!!!!

My wife has a brand new estate seat Leon so she doesn't need my car I say. I see the state of hers with the kids in it. Rubbish everywhere it's a mess and I clean it for her once a week lol.

My wife gets annoyed because I drive MY car through the week to the station and it sits there all day. She wants to know why I can't take the seat so she has more room to ferry the kids around. It ain't happening.

Great stuff! I wish I could do the same but I commute from Edinburgh to Aberdeen weekly so it makes total sense to take the Passat with 50+ mpg. If I had a normal commute, she would have a Qashqai or something similar for lugging the kids to school/meeting friends for coffe/going to the gym or whatever she does to fill her time...and I'd have something more RS-shaped.

But seriously considering putting these on as soon as I get the vehicle this time round after last times fiasco's:- cost an average of £65 or £70 corner to correct and add value before I sold it..

I'm having 22s 😬😬😬😬.

The detailer I use also punts these wheels protectors but they only go up to 21". Check out the crazy colours. https://www.alloygator.com/products/2/Sets/
Just saw this.. I believe been thinking of the black one's of course as I think once they get curved and they will knowing my luck and some the high kerbs in some places..it will leave dark marks easily visible on lighter colours..

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

See I would prefer my kids to be in the safest and more comfortable car, you let them go about I a Spanish crisp packet??? Wow up to you!!

At the end of the day it's a car and you can teach them to tidy up after themselves. PLUS with her happy in a big car, you can then get a toy for yourself!!! (Listen to what I say not as I do as I'm still waiting on the toy!! Lol)

Yeah don't get me wrong I'm being totally selfish but I work hard for that car and it's my company car allowance that pays for it. It's like my bit of reward for all the hard work and long hours. But on weekends as a family we naturally go in the Q7.

But the estate is what my wife choose as her little family run about, I'm just making her stick to it.

She will use the Q7 though when she needs it. Like ikea and if she has a trip to centre Parcs with her friends and needs the boot space. I'm not a total knob lol.

I love that car though it's my baby. Besides hers is a manual and I don't do manuals 🖓🖓

Guys just be wary of the alloygators...I looked in to them pretty extensively when my parents bought a Qashqai.

May not actually affect any of the Q wheels but if there's was diamond cut and it's not worth it as any grit etc getting in between can actually cause more damage and damage you wouldn't necessarily see until too late.

I better get more involved ... about what diamond cutting process etc actually is then.. , I know alloys some corrode quicker than the other..

So it can actually damage tyres &/or some Audi alloy itself or both? :-0

It's relatively easy to spot if you have diamond cut wheels as the face looks very shiny like bare alloy with very faint lines under the lacquer, and often have a different colour on the insides of the spokes.

I haven't seen any of the Q7 wheels up close so not sure if they conform to the above. I'm always wary of what salesmen say when it comes to stuff like this.

Shhhhh! Where a woman that isn't a die hard petrolhead is involved, even wheels with a 55" side profile are still ripe for curbing.

This actually helped me.. As the company I had actually asked to put these on would have actually gone ahead and put them on after telling me I had diamond Cuts in the Q7. It's only because had read this I asked him about the potentially of damage/corrosion etc. At which point he said I would expect some and it is upto me If I want to go ahead and put them on rather advise me of it from the outset.

Luckily the Goodyear Eagles that came on this ar quite think and should offer some protection against the dreaded inevitable kerbing

So Thanks a bundle man!!

I'll tell you 2 things I hate when cleaning my car:

First is I am the only person who has cleaned that car since I got it and when you are the only one who touches it you know every mark, every blemish on that car and each week you wash you find a new little mark, stone chip or scratch that upsets you [emoji26]
The second thing is I hate water streaks and I find I get them under the wing mirrors, each end of the Crome roof rails and the rear bumper corners where the low reflective lights sit. I dry the car all looks good come back am hour later and water has run out and down from all of these places and it drys and leaves a water mark. Hate it lol

it's not really needed to wash just the final rinse plus it saves the resin and lasts much longer

Since the siramik coat went on, I've found watermarks are less of an issue as the seem to sit on top of the coating and seem to dust off the surface with a gentle wipe with the soft drying towel.

Cost was £400 for the new car protection (Inc interior) and an extra £275 for the Siramik. I also went for the additional Diamas Professionali coating which added £175. Car was with him for 3 days.

What sort if finish should I be expecting on detailing or Gtechniq Serum + Exo finishing ?

Found this residue all over so have asked the detailer just now..

Also if I brush my finger from side to side I can see some scratches eventually as fingers bit tough and rough from gardening last few days..

I didn't realise how good it was until I washed it myself for the first time. Dirt falls off it and stays cleaner for much longer.

3 weeks since the last wash and from 10 yards side on it looks spot on. It's only when you look across the bonnet that you think it needs a clean!

On top of that, the coating should provide a decent layer of protection. Bird sh1te on mine just flakes off instead of seeming like its been bonded with superglue!

thats not good mate ok it's only a clean up but should of been done by elite

the paintwork looks stunning but the finish sucks

what your seeing is the dry Cristals I do wonder if it was done when it was to hot

i see this when I done me own car but mainly round the bottle lid after it dried up around the cap
i don't know why your seeing it over the car like you are
i don't think it will be any prob for you and as you said when you washed it the water sheets like crazy

IF YOU HAVE WORRIES CONTACK GTECNIQ DIRECT AND ASK THEM RATHER THAN ELITE THINK ROB IS THE GO TO ASK GUY

if there is any mist marks you should see it

if it's been over applied it the paintwork will feel sticky

when the car is clean and free from water
run your fingers over the paint
It should feel like glass very smooth with no lumps and not grabby should feel very slick

really hope this helps you?

does look stunning mind and Gtechniq and exo is really top stuff

this weekend end Robert dyers has this with £50 off

but it don't stop there they also have 20% off this weekend and think that inc this

so about £279 and inc free delivery

think they retail at £449 so huge saving

I'm hoping to to keep this car Self cleaned " home as opposed to car washes and involve kids somehow too early on (Two bucket education :-0 coming for them - they gona HATE ME)

In any case... Also Checkout the "Re: What Mitt? - THREAD" - post #6

had posted this @£89.99 as it appears to be a tad more versatile in terms of application and use

Aqua Gleam Car Wash Water Filter 30ppm: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike (http://amzn.to/29LPbeN)

Enjoy 'N all the best the best re- spotlessness it is a REALLLLLLlllll PAIN! as I realised trying to sell the last one myself, it drys so quickly.. so will be getting the above system as can't adapt te CR Spotless as would have been my 1st choice.. but it is also suited for professionals which I am far from

Just bought ones of these, fantastic bit of kit , quick wash with wash and wax then rinse followed by rinse with filtered water and the car looks better than when I've just waxed it , never seen it shine so much :-)

Just rinse , drying is when I tend to pick up a bit of missed dirt and cause swirls so hopefully this filter will help loads in preserving the long term shine

thats not good mate ok it's only a clean up but should of been done by elite

the paintwork looks stunning but the finish sucks

what your seeing is the dry Cristals I do wonder if it was done when it was to hot

i see this when I done me own car but mainly round the bottle lid after it dried up around the cap
i don't know why your seeing it over the car like you are
i don't think it will be any prob for you and as you said when you washed it the water sheets like crazy

M
Thanks for the tip on contacting Rob direct.. Awesome, certainly would make more sense as these guys are approved or so I'm lead to believe..

Earlier that day I only got the below responses as I e-mailed straight away as wasn't sure what to expect at all.. :-0

Will need to see what to expect after 1st clean up when mrs back after short lids2 break..hopefully I should have me cleaning gear all ready too!..

The only thing I was really worked or worried was seeing scratches being made by my rough fingers when rubbing on the paintwork circular motion to check[emoji47] [emoji19] also easy to see smudge marks currently from kids touching the gleam where ever they can reach every time they run out . Oh wow this good 👍 to know now esp as the car is back from detailing and I still ain't got me cleaning **** and packs together fully as yet .. Need to finalise on detailing finish spray maybe meguiars buckets and cloths

The last time I read the Amazon guide on how to guide about using it it mentioned sparingly etc.. So wasn't sure how many uses times it lasts etc.. So guess it's staying in the cart.. Although ebay is at 69.99 last I checked via “maxw” update

Hopefully you can leave just to dry without having to rinse based on what the Amazon product detail says。。..

It's the rinse I use it for , the wash and first rinse I just use normal water to preserve the filter life , I was careful to make sure it never started to dry before the final filtered rinse , maybe better to wash late in the evening as keeping it wet on such a big car is easier said than done ! Took me about twenty minutes to pressure wash , two bucket sponge wash , rinse and then filtered rinse , used to take an hour as I would always have to aqua wax and dry before to get a decent finish . Not sure how long filter will last yet but some of the cost will be ofset from reduced use of aqua wax

I understand what there saying as I said the same

but the thing that's not good is the fact they didn't clean up all the bits via a vac etc it's the finish that's really poor

as for machine polish as far as I know the car was prob machine befor the Gtechniq goes on but they wouldn't of machine polished the car after the Gtechniq was aplyed

like you say it's no big job to clean but no reason why they shouldn't of clean the bits up that's just down to poor service hey'?

but you will be really pleased you had it done mate

im still looking into this in a big way and not sure what route to go

you have the inline cheap ish through away inline de-iron

or the bigger DI vessel

this is like (and can only describe) like a fire extingisher vessel

they can be had in a few sizes 5lit 11lit etc and there full of resin and last.a year or so once used just empty and refill with resin

on the top they just simple have a in and out hose connection and can be used with pressure washers snow foam

but another big thing fill your two wash bucket up as this don't often help when washing the water often start to dry up

the DI vessel filter is far more affective you norm stand by the tap connect a hose to the tap and other end your hose

the bigger the vessel the longer it lasts but also works quicker with the smaller ones you have to reduce the flow
from what I've seen the 11lit is best all rounder

11.7 Litre DI Resin Vessel & Fittings - For Pole Window Cleaning & Pure Water | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11-7-Litre-DI-Resin-Vessel-Fittings-For-Pole-Window-Cleaning-Pure-Water-/231743896947?hash=item35f5033d73:g:zY4AAMXQxU9R-7DL)

or do a search and your prob find even cheaper but there very good in what they do
even window cleaner use thease for there Pole's or run water through and store in a large tank

a real worth while envestment in my eyes
and like above have quoted you save prob an hour spec on a big car ie Q7 by not drying and less likely to scratch your car and add swirl marks
so really it's a no brainier

just my view

Don't get me wrong I can be a right tart regards to detailing having a Megs DA polisher and product to do the whole stage thing but today I have used Megs Carnuba Quick Wax again and for a quick fix it is absolutely brilliant on solid black. Super easy to apply and take off with no marling or haze what so ever. Highly recommended.

Maths DA is available if anyone fancies doing a proper job.

Second one too. Other one did the same. I waved it out after each wash then left it to dry out a little as the instructions said don't let it dry out completely. Then I placed it in a zip lock bag. Not sure where I went wrong?

ive already brought the megs DA now lol so hope it's ok
just need a few pointers on how to use it

where is the name Pitch from any chance HELICOPTERS?

just brought this also to wash and rince the car so I can get spot free drying to save time
plus can also clean the house windows with it lol

you can either use the resin bags like shown or use loose resin works the same as the fire extingisher type Di but with this you can change the resin easy can also add wheels and it won't fall over either like the tall slim Di bottles and quick connect std hose fittings so can store in the shed it's not the cheapest but more versatile and like I said ideal for cleaning windows too you can buy Pole's and water fed brushes to do just that and can clean the upstairs with out a ladder and as water is soft no need to wipe or dry

There around £214 that inc resin and a TDS water hardness meeter bags of resin are around £25 or you can use much cheaper loose resin

like I say not cheap but very good you can change resin in les than 3 min

plus the water flow is better and resin is better used due to the special flow of water through the resin

the other style Di changing resin plus the mess would take prob half hour

photo below is the bigger 2 bag one but shows the features

Mate as long bit works consistently the £215 ish with initial resin bag? outlay is still good.. as opposed to paying £500-£600 for something you use twice a month realistically.. IMO I think this will just pay for itself after 6 months for so..

Esp with average window cleaning at approximately £20-£25 for a four bed prop in some suburbs..

Will be looking into this.. hopefully you can update us it's use over next couple of months..

They rekon the resin bags should last 600 litres??, should be interesting to know if they have a shelf life too , if not used for 18 odd months for eg or if they resin could jsut be stored away, @£30 appx not that pricey but if the don't last that long then it could add up.

As you seem to have one and know a bit more about DI systems, can the little D12 be fit on the wall permanently and the hosted connected to the katche for example to use the DI water that way instead ?

Thanks

maxw
02-08-2016, 02:32 PM
Not sure on the shelf life of resin I do know they come in a seal bucket rather than a bag

as far as I know the resin is no different to the other resin that's used in any Di system just comes in there own bag for easy change but you can just buy cheap loose resin of your choice and still easy to change loose as it's not got a narrow neck like the other Di bottles
just the case of remove the lid and turn up side down to tip resin out then refill

you could fit to the wall IE via a self and the unint would have to sit upright

as for resin lasting that's down to water flow and hardness of water

they do include a disc with a small hole in so you can restrict the flow

like any Di system the more water through it and faster flow will use the resin quicker

when you snow foam a car you use the lower flow on the Karcher k series so ideal

some people just use a Di to rince the car off

your be better than me as the water in your area is softer than Ipswich will try find out about shelf life

Not had any issue with it other that the bottle could be bigger. I don't do high mileage so I've been cleaning the car after about 500 miles each time and it's been easy to clean the wheel - I think the detailer did coat the alloys too which probably helps.

As much as I sometimes regret upgrading the wheels, they do look like they'll continue to look like new for the long haul. My old X5 had the 20" M Sport alloys that you see on most E70's and within 6 months the lacquer was coming away around the hub. I think I ended up with 4 or 5 full sets under warranty as a result.

It was good in that I never needed to worry about kerbing them! The last set took about 6 months to arrive as I think everyone was at it. I managed to get it approved just before the 3 year warranty ran out which meant when I sold it after 4 years, it had a mint set of alloys on it!

Just looked them up. Didn't realise they were so close. We go dog training in the same road and didn't realise they were there. [emoji106]

It's not a shop, it's their warehouse and distribution units. They will sell direct if you pop in. I'll try some of your recommendations I think.

Thanks.

Hi guys. I don't suppose Max or anyone else has any discount codes for "cleanyourcar.co.uk"? I'm about to buy a DA and some bits and bobs for it. Thinking about using Car Pro Essence for my prep prior to CQuartz. Anyone used it before?

Any help appreciated.

Glad all work ok and happy to help

i detailed all mine couple of weeks back had a couple of marks that I used meguires 105 then 205
i used orange hex logic with 105 and white hex logic with 205 I also used this to do the B pillars as they was shocking with swirl marks
on the B pillars I used 4" hex logic orange and white

then machined polish the whole car with hex logic white and built hamber cleaner polish

then by hand applied bilt hamber Finis-wax (2 coats)

M

ps I've heard good things about the scholl S40 black it's a all in one compound and polish

apart from the Bilt hamber cleaner polish if you use other polish always use cleaner fluid or panel wipe after polishing before waxing so you get a clean key

That's great advice. I've been reading about CarPro Essence and it states that I don't need to use any IPA prior to CQuartz application. I do have some Eraser just in case.

Regards different backing plate sizes and smaller pads is it simply down to the size of the working area that dictates what size to use? I've ordered a 3 1/2" plate and 4" pad also.

its mainly down to are of car being done
i.e. Bonnet use 5-6" pads and large area
B pillars parts of wings site of pano roof bumpers etc use 4"

no no reason why you can't use 4" for whole car just more work
the bigger the pad on larger areas ensures more that you have the pad flat and more even pressure plus quicker and more coverage

Ive tried both it depends on the polish your using the lube does help but can also throw the polish everywere if not carful

the biggest tip I can give you is make sure the polish is still wet don't work it dry as it will then mark

and another big thing make sure the pad don't get really hot as you can burn the paint then take your time
make sure the pad is clean and prime the pad and spread across the area to be worked

dont over load the pad with polish use 3 or 4 small pea size drops

to clean the pad odd time use a tooth brush if you don't have an air line

the lube I used was chemical guys but loads of others out there but just use one small spray if you use it

Thanks Pitch most kind of you I was in Yarmouth on the weekend too as the other half lives there

ive already brought the megs DA now lol so hope it's ok
just need a few pointers on how to use it

where is the name Pitch from any chance HELICOPTERS?

just brought this also to wash and rince the car so I can get spot free drying to save time
plus can also clean the house windows with it lol

you can either use the resin bags like shown or use loose resin works the same as the fire extingisher type Di but with this you can change the resin easy can also add wheels and it won't fall over either like the tall slim Di bottles and quick connect std hose fittings so can store in the shed it's not the cheapest but more versatile and like I said ideal for cleaning windows too you can buy Pole's and water fed brushes to do just that and can clean the upstairs with out a ladder and as water is soft no need to wipe or dry

Folks, just resurrecting the water filter discussion. I'm thinking about getting one, but I have two questions: (1) I live in a soft water area so will I see any benefit? (2) I understand that rain can leave water spots when the car dries after the rain stops, so it there really any point using a water filter when washing it?

Cheers

Hi Gyro
ive not really seen rain spots only dirty sandy rain that looks a mess

as for water filter in a soft area if you wash your car and don't dry it and it leaves marks then yes your bennifit from a water filter

plus it's a win win as you have soft water your resin will last prob 3-4 times longer than mine as I live in one of the hardest water area

also if you wash your own windows a resin filter is great for that also

i only use the water filter to rinse me car off once washed hope this is of help
any more question feel free to ask

"Walkers crisp blue"! Now that made me literally "LOL"...I might send that onto the Audi marketing department!

I've not noticed any water spots yet. It's off in for a detail on 9 November so I'll be without it for five days, will ask the retailer what he thinks. Really want to keep it on tiptop condition but best intentions and all that. Plus my missus uses it Monday - Thursday whilst I'm in Aberdeen, and she always leaves it like a sh*thouse - it's been the root cause of many a tiff!

I bought some Gyeon Q2M wetcoat to include in the cleaning ritual so hopefully that will help keep her looking good.

If I'm reading your question right, it's not going into the dealers for five days, it's going to the detailer to get the works, full paint protection/sealant etc. Including the wheels and brake calipers painted. Drop off on the Wednesday and pick up on the Sunday. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Guys, just ordered an SQ7, currently got a BiTDi A6 16 plate, so my usual trolling area was the A6 forum. Just noticed this thread and the water purification bits. Anyway, I run a water treatment business and get involved in building systems to purify water, so don't go paying a fortune for these things. The parts are relatively inexpensive, just a vessel with some internals, ion exchange resin to get rid of impurities in the water and a few fittings to enable whatever connections you want/have. The resin can be regenerated when exhausted but this involves using acids/alkalies etc so is pretty dangerous, so for what it costs, the resin is best replaced when spent. A cheap conductivity meter will help you figure out when the resin stops working to save on premature replacement.
I have built myself a little system which has worked well and I have been running for over a year now. Certainly helps when washing the car in the warm weather.
And, for what it's worth, soft water will be better than hard water as it has less calcium and magnesium in there, but it will still have other salts which will leave deposits when allowed to dry. A DI system will remove pretty much everything.
Cheers

You will NOT be disappointed with the SQ7 - had mine for three weeks now and it's unbelievable. What spec did you go for? I'd be interested to hear your deliver time. I was four months from order to delivery, mid-June to mid-October.

Interested to hear how you built your water system? Sounds like a great little life hack!

Thanks. Sepang with 22s, ambient light pack, pan roof. May add/change a few bits as it's early days and I keep yo-yoing - you know how it is! Liking the black pack but probably would need to change the colour, so can't wait for the time things are fixed so I can't mess anymore.
The kit would be very easy to build. A vessel, a bag of resin and some fittings for hose etc. Basically pour the resin in the vessel (comes as small dry beads), put the top on, screw in the preferred fittings, rinse through. Probably no more than 10 minutes from start to finish.
As I'm in the industrial/commercial sector I need to have a look at the smaller stuff and get a list together to share. My normal kit would be used to treat tons and tons of water so getting the smaller stuff, although not a problem is something I'll need to look in to. I already have 800 ltrs of this resin in stock so that bit's easy. For info, I'd be looking at a little 15 - 20ltr vessel to do what we need. Mine is a 25ltr vessel and I reckon it's a bit too big. I'll keep you posted with the info I get.
Cheers

thanks, check previous reply for specs, nothing extravagant really, as the basic car looks like a beast anyway, just a few bling and practical things added. Was thinking about the active roll bars but I really don't think I could justify the extra ££ for this. Saying that, I can't really justify the ££ for the SQ, but that's life - don't get me started!! Delivery time is looking like April but I have nothing confirmed as of yes. I'm in no rush but I expect to be advised some dates at least - sounds like you had a bit of a mare?
I've replied previously (just now) replied about what's involved with the water purification system and will update tomorrow when I speak to my suppliers about getting the bits needed. I always forget the quote thing too...

The car is a beast, have you driven one yet? I'd driven the 272 S-Line, which was stonkingly good, so I knew I was in for a treat. Re the anti-roll bars, would be nice but I think they only come in a pack along with the AWS and sports diff, which costs £5,700 - my thoughts were that if you've never had it you won't miss it - and to be honest the standard SQ7 setup with the "S" air suspension feels fantastic and hold the road excellently IMO.

Yeah, I had a bit of a mare but it was partly due to my impatience and demand for things to work as they are supposed to. Got a £250 voucher as a gesture of good will which paid for rubber mats, puddle lights etc., so not all bad.

Have you got your order number and set up the "YourAudi" tracker yet?

Thanks for the heads up for the water system.

Driven a 272 and liked that, but by the time I'd specced it with air, tech pack etc. I wasn't too far off the SQ. I didn't take much swinging to be fair! Got the A6 BiTDi at the moment and have a few Audi's/VAG cars so am pretty confident in what to expect (I reckon).
No tracking number as yes, but my contact at Audi was off last week so I'll await his response today.

Had the car now for a few weeks and finally got a chance to do the full prep/detail/protect. This has been months in the making, buying products and tools. I had seen that a number of guys on here had gone to detailers for ceramic protection etc but budget and the fact that I am a "weekend warrior" made me consider doing it all myself.

It really was a slog getting the decontamination and machine polishing done pre ceramic coating, but I really did enjoy it. Need to thank @maxw for the discount codes. Huge help....

I used CQuartz Uk as it apparently is easier to work with in our climate. I started to run out of light on the day and got really worried that the end results would not be good especially as there was a thick layer of dew on the car all night. I used the Reload spray after application to help with any standing water in the curing process.

Anyway, today was the first opportunity to do an inspection wash to check for any missed bits or high spots and another Reload application. All looks good and the car was so easy to clean with the ceramic coating. Let's hope it is as durable as the product states.

Definitely worth the slog and hard work. The car seems to shine really well. The reality is that a professional would get a better overall shine but if budget doesn't allow then well worth going down the DIY route.

Thanks mate. It was a good 10 hours solid. I've only worked on the paint so still have to coat the glass when I get a chance. So many stages to the decontamination.

I now realise just how big the car is. Hopefully all that work will make for a quicker clean in the future. I love the colour. It has a real depth to it.

like you I did mine my self and took me a few weeks due to health
I did the roof one day then bonnet and front another
then one side then the other etc took ages but well worth it
and it give you pride and achievement
I double waxed mine mainly due to applying Gtechniq needed to be inside to do it and no way the Q will fit in the garage lol
so had to wax instead

i bet you keep looking out the window and turning round to admire your work as you walk away
and to right too looks stunning

Loving the inlays Max. I would have definitely gone for that combo but the price is so hard to justify when choosing what options you can afford or need.

Did you spec it or get the car pre spec'd?

Defo the best dash in my opinion.

It looks even better on a darker day was a very bright day when photo was taken makes the seats look light grey and parts of the dash brown

it was spect as I wasn't keen on the silver dash
granted was a lot of money and did think twice
but worked around the price as really wanted this combo

i had spec nogaro blue paint as well but added a month or more to the build
so changed to sepang blue at the time of order back in sept last year seapang
was an exclusive colour costing £2000 then it was addded as a £600 extra
was a rare colour when I got mine but getting quite common now

in some ways I'm glad I couldn't have nogaro blue as not sure it would
of suited the car and is a A4 A5 old must have colour would love to still see one in that colour mind

thanks for your kind comments

Cheers

Mine's a lot bigger than that ;) but essentially the same idea. Reckon, based on the costs I have, they will come in at half the price of the eBay one. I have ordered half a dozen sets so, when the bits land, and I get a spare hour, I will build them up and let you know. Also need to get postage costs. As said previously, I have the resin, so it's just the parts I am waiting for.
Busy times at the moment hence this has been on the back-burner. Keep you posted

So I have been so busy I have not been on the forum much but just reading only without commenting. But I seen that Pitch and a few others have caved in and had their car washed by their local car wash place.

I also have done this as life and winter have made it to hectic for me, but I have done it in a way that minimises the damage they can cause.

I take my own clothes and wash mitts and make them use those [emoji16] now a few things make this easier, I avoid car washes with 25 polish people climbing all over it at once as they want to get you in and out as quickly as possible and are harsh and rough in the process. Luckily for me I have a quite little car wash around the corner tucked away where not a lot of people know about it and there are only about 3 of them working there. I have them in a nice routine now now they use my wash mitts and my nice fluffy big drying towels.

I keep a container for the mitts and clothes in the car and wash them when at home.

I had to get them to ease up on the power wash nozzle as when doing the wheels they were banging the nozzle around between the spokes and damaging the alloy finish.

Now I know this is not ideal as naturally there is no 2 bucket method and they are using a huge drum, but hopefully most of the dirt settles to the bottom and not that bad. Atleast I have minimised damage to the paint work as much as possible and I only go there occasionally and still do it my self from home [emoji106]

To be honest I wasn't sure about the 22" wheels granted they do look good but way harder to clean than me turbines I had and was shocked how much higher the car was going from 21"-22" rims I noticed on the weekend when I washed the car bare in mind the SQ7 sits lower anyway I could just reach the roof at the back end to wash but I can't now lol

As for the rear lights again I wasn't sure as they do suit black and dark grey and look real nice but didn't want a total same looking car as the last so hence the wheels and rear lights but I'm warming to the rear lights now and think they do suit it

One thing I will say is the active anti roll really does make the car
It's not quite as smooth ride as the Q7 was but feels so much more planted on the road and way less body roll a lot of money extra but worth it
If you have never had it or compared it you won't miss it but it you have tried it or brought it ud be glad you did

I'm not actually sure Max. [emoji15] ,..

reasons being don't get chance to clean it as often as I thought I would as don't use car washes anymore, the other being I didn't/ still doubt the detailing work that was done and carried out or what was used etc, + also the body material used in the new Q7 scratches way easier than on body panels on Daytona pearlescent Q7 we had [emoji20] ..

But then again every time I have cleaned it, out comes the shine for a few days (as it always raining I guess).

Does it shine because of the CS protection or because it's new.. hard to say I guess..

Would I do it again on a new car (hmmmm)... now that you asked, thinking about it, probably not ..personally, can't visibly justify it as it stands today...

Maybe If had 2 similar new cars and colours one with it one without to check over a year or so.. [emoji15]

Thanks for for the info
it a hard one as no 2 people lifestyle are the same and 2 people look after there cars different

its not all about thoughness and shine and should be more easy to clean and dry after
and same with bird poo and dead flys etc on paper being coated should make all this more easy to wash off and remove the bugs etc

water beading or sheeting is a big thing with some people

they say with exo it needs topping up each year so you should be at that stage
you can tell as when it rains or you wash the water beading will have dropped off

i had Gtechniq C5 coating on my wheels that I did meself and I must say to clean all I need was soap and water and a good soft brush like a wheel woolie

never once had to use wheel acid and with a pressure washer most the break dust and dirk came off befor I even had washed then

another thing was the glass was treated at 40mph and over the water would just bead and fly off didn't really need the wipers on
so for sure more safe to drive

so the wheels and glass I had treated for over a year on old car and def with it
just was interesting to see what you thought of coating as last car I used a superb wax but the Gtechniq is more permernat and less work if all works out

thanks for your info

The floor board reinforcement wasn't related to AWS... My car doesn't have reinforced flooring... I can see it in the build list whereas a newer car does... So that makes sense... As for aws and no running boards.. No idea.. Audi obviously think it can't be done with both... But a 3rd party set may well be possible
