Foam insulation collar - engine cover to rocker cover

Hi, has anyone had a similar problem who can advise me please. The foam collar which sits between the engine cover and rocker cover on my 1.9TDi has disintegrated. Is there a supplier other than the main dealer that anyone knows of or has used an alternative product. I'm not too sure of its purpose, did read somewhere it may be for sound insulation?

I think everyone's car of a certain age has the foam disintegrate, AFAIK it's sound insulation and can be got rid of rather than making a mess everywhere.
