Hello

I have noticed a few times when washing the Q7 that there seems to be some form of camera in the rear view mirror. It points forward and you can see it through the glass. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks

Shab

It's the camera for the lane assist and ACC if you have them fitted

Do you have a button on the tip of your left hand stalk which looks like a road?
Or do you have adaptive cruise? The camera does one or both depending on what you have fitted.

Not sure really. Have cruise control stalk. Do you have a pic at all?

The button on the top is lane assist, the cruise control with the dial ontop is adaptive cruise

Not sure I'm afraid, have a look at kufatec to be sure and get costs.

Is your car a facelift model? If so and you don't have ACC or lane assist, the camera could be for the matrix lights.

If not facelift it could also be part of the high beam assist

Yes mine is a 61 reg facelift. What do you mean about matrix lights?

Ah right it's not the newest facelift then, a brand new one has just been launched about 6 months ago. Matrix lights have 1.2 billion settings, have a look on YouTube - I wish I had them

Take a picture for us and post it up. It could well be HBA.

Could be to do with the "auto dimming" interior mirror, bot my Superb and my last Seat Exeo had one...

This is taken from the Volvo website, I suspect the same....

Automatic dimming*

Bright light from behind is automatically dimmed by the rearview mirror. The control for manual dimming is not available on mirrors with automatic dimming.

The rearview mirror contains two sensors - one forward facing and one rearward facing - that work together to identify and eliminate dazzling light. The forward facing sensor detects ambient light, while the rearward facing sensor detects the light from vehicle headlights behind.

Is this what you mean.... Taken from the Skoda Superb handbook...

No its the camera for lane assist. You can see it through the front screen.

Question is how much effort is involved to retro this feature to my car?

Probably quite a lot as I think you can only have it if you have ACC. If you have that then I think it will be a case of a new stalk and some coding

Real basic question but what is ACC and what functionality does it provide over normal cruise control?

ACC is adaptive cruise control. With normal cc you set the speed and the car will attempt to do that speed no matter what.

With ACC it uses radars mounted in the front bumper to scan the road and adapt its speed. So if Ive set it to 70mph and in the outside lane of the motorway, it will do that speed. If something then pulls out, it will automatically brake, move me to a safe distance and follow that car. When the vehicle moves out of the way it will then resume 70mph automatically.
It also includes pre-sense which detects slow moving traffic or an imminent accident and takes preventative action to reduce or prevent an accident.
