Hi

Does this exist?

If not, what is the next best thing? I want it either hard wired or wireless

Any suggestions?

I don't think vw do a official dash cam. However in my Passat I use a Möbius it's a nice and small camera I have been using mine for 1 and a half years. I have a sample video in my YouTube Channel Mobius Dashcam Day time Test footage - YouTube (http://youtu.be/aTXSeWEjpns) TechMoan on YouTube has a fantastic review of this camera and lots of others to so have a good look on there. I like mine as it's hard to see even in full daylight. Unless you're looking for it of course

Thanks Steve.

How have you done the wiring? Can you send a pic please?

Yes no problem it's very easy, I use a hard wire kit route the wire and tuck it between the windscreen and head lining and the over the top of the side air bag down the door rubber and into the fuse box I use a fuse piggy back thing to plug into the wiring and use a near by bolt for a ground, I will send pictures through when it gets light. The way I have done the wiring will work for other dash cams just make sure that you get the correct sized USB connector for your dash cam.

Thanks Steve. If you can also send some links for the parts you used, that would be grand

Hi yus786 here is the pictures as promised I uploaded them to my Photobucket account hopefully the link to the Album works ok. Mobius Camera by Steven715 | Photobucket (http://s1303.photobucket.com/user/Steven715/library/Mobius%20camera)
I couldn't get a picture of the camera from the windscreen due to the light shining back but should give you an idea.
This is the fuse piggyback that I used http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=180735824927&globalID=EBAY-GB
The good thing about this is the circuit your getting the power from is still protected and the new circuit is protected by its own fuse [emoji846]
And this is where I got the camera from Dash Cams, Car Cameras & Car DVRs | Car Camera Shop (http://www.carcamerashop.co.uk) you will need the hard wire kit on what ever camera you decide to buy.

Thanks man.

There are 2 options for the hard wiring: Hardwire Kit (Mini Blade Fuse) and Hardwire Kit (Standard Blade Fuse)

Which one would we need for the Passat.

The Passat takes the mini fuses sorry I did not realise I gave you a link with options.

Extra Info:
When your looking for a dash cam get one with a capacitor option if you can, the Mobius can have either one or the other they are very serviceable little cameras.

What is a capacitor?

What is a capacitor?

Its like a battery but it's only used for keeping the time and date current within the camera. Lithium battery's in a hot / cold car does not do them any good as they can swell up and cause internal damage to the camera.
The capacitor is a way of storing energy however they don't have the capacity to replace the battery altogether unfortunately but it's good enough in this application unless your planing on running the camera outside the car for example.
