It's an Audi 2009 TDI Sline, the turbo went, has been replaced now then told the oil pump shaft has sheared, thats been replaced / repaired, now oil pressure is good, engine sounds sweet but still no power.
Its not my car but I can buy it from my friend as a non runner as he has no cash and a young family so would like to help them out.
Any idea's , thoughts on the gamble, is it worth repairing or getting a second hand engine.

Many thanks Gaz

Vcds check see what comes up, that would be your quickest and cheaper option atm

ok, so the oil shaft broke and starved the engine of oil. No oil in the turbo killed the turbo, but also may have damaged the engine and bearings as well as piston rings. But if the engine is running sweetly and no power, I think that it has not been put back together properly. Either the valve timing is out or the injection timing is out. I assume it drives ok apart from the power. You need a diagnostics person to hook up their computer and measure both injection timing and manually check the valve timing. Report back.

At the price you mentioned. I would say too much of a risk without doing the above.

Thanks for the advice, have not driven it, the mechanic said it is low on power. As the oil drive was fixed after the turbo. The post turbo test drive went ok but lost power after a short time , could it have blown the new turbo.

No should not of done as long as the oil is suppling the turbo, could be a bent cod rod, worn rings etc etc, as shabazmo said best to plug into a vcds.

Cheers guys I will have to give this some more thought. Perhaps a used guaranteed engine will be the best option.

You are correct in that if the turbo was replaced and the car ran well for a short time it could be that the replacement turbo has gone. But if the turbo is gone, you will get black smoke coming out of the exhaust when you rev the car.
