Done about 400m on my new SE Business. Really love it after 7 years in my B6 170, such an all round improvement. However I have noticed that when I stop and get out the radiator fan is going and there is a hot metal smell. This after a journey of 10m and 26m, both on traffic free roads at 50-60 so fairly gentle driving. Not all trips but I remember these two. Ok the engine is new and tight but I havent experienced this on other new cars. An ex-VW relative said its probably doing a regen., but surely the dpf doesnt need a regen already. Both temp displays show normal (oil 90-94c), so am curious whether other people notice the fan whiring away when they stop the engine and get out.

Yes its a DPF regen. There is no set distance for when a regen may happen, just when the car feels to clear the system.

Same here. Already with 10k km on the new passat 240 hp. Regen it is. Happening once every 1-2 k km. drive on 4th as it says in the book, or just let it do its thing. You shouldn't worry. I checked it with the dealer, as I noticed it just like you.

I noticed the same thing yesterday. I've done about 1k miles since new and I had the same noise and smell after a 55 mile journey. Glad to know it's nothing to worry about.

Same here on my GT 150 saloon. Nothing to worry about, although my wife said "you'd better take that car back, my B7 doesn't do that on our driveway" 😜

Yup, same here with my 2.0 Tdi. Same story from the dealer as well. It does it about once a week.

My B8 does that too. Yesterday the car spent about 5 minutes doing it even after locking the doors. Same smell as well.

Yes I have had this, from new. It happens about 1 in 20 trips. The dealer assured me that it was doing a DPF regen but I think it's just one of those oddities that you get when you drive a computer with four wheels and an engine. Yesterday for example my radio refused to boot up but this morning it's working fine. It all usually works impeccably but I dread the day something goes wrong with the technology.

After 1400 mainly brisk or fast miles I've noticed regen about every 350 miles. I've had fan running on, smell and heat as described here. I just leave it switched off. Once conditions are right after restart it resumes regen. If regen is happening when the car comes to a halt in traffic the giveaways are idle up at about 1000rpm and automatic stop/start is unavailable which is confirmed by the symbol in the top RH corner of the MFD.
