put in an oil flush first, then change the oil

Do you use a PD oil ?

If your garage tested the compression then they will already have had the cam cover off to remove the glow plugs to get the comp tester in. In that case have they not already checked the cam lobes? If you are competent enough to be changing the oil then you can remove the cam cover yourself, check the cams before spending money on oil and filter.

Forgot to mention I ran a diesel system cleaner fuel additive through but saw no improvement.
Engine flush before oil charge could be worth a shout.

I've had a look at the engine cover and it really looks like it hasn't been off recently, would hope garage wasn't lying about compression test!

Will take off the rocker cover this weekend, is it easy to inspect for damage?

Any one heard of a noise like this from injectors? It's more of a 'ck' sound. It is not like the classic tap sound of a tappet. Will record a video tomorrow. Doesn't go away when warm.
