Another question for the forum that someone might be able to answer. Sometimes when I start the car I get 4 beeps which sound like they are eminating from the rear left hand side of the car, somewhere near the Cd changer, any ideas? Also any bright ideas as to how to stop the bloody rear shelf creaking? besides turning up the stereo! Any other Irish people here or am I the token Paddy.

Hi, Sorry for the delay ,I only noticed this post whilst trying to upgrade the site:o I will have a word with my technical expert about this, and see what he can come up with. Good thing is, he owns a "TT", so may have even had the same problems.

I will get back to you on this Monday if that's OK:Blush2:

Ps, I think you are the only member that is Irish;)

Hi

Right, having spoken to a couple of VAG specialist, they are at a complete loss as to what could be making this noise:( I have had suggestions of possible alarm, parking sensors, but no real good news.......sorry.

As for the rear shelf you could try getting some self adesive rubber pads on the plastic carriers, this may help.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Hi there,
Thanks for checking it out for me anyway. Maybe someone else has had the same problem and let us know.Read somewhere that you can use silicone on the rear shelf as it seems to be in two halves like an Airfix model but I have decided not to mess with it cos I know if I break it ,it will cost me a fortune for a new one. One thing abouts VAGS is they always are predictable when it comes to problems. Both Coupe's I had needed new bushings on the front every so ofter and I think the TT will be the same. Thought by now they would have engineered this out of their cars. Anyone know a good web site to buy new front mats? The ones that are in it are ok but Id like to get a new set. Thanks again

Can't help with the answer but I get the same 4 beeps occasionally when starting up my A6 2.7T Quattro Avant. Only ever seems to be cold start and another site suggests it could be an alarm sensor problem. The beeps do sound like alarm beeps but my alarm seems to be functioning fine and otherwise car is normal. I can't find any reference to audible warnings of this nature in the book so I'm not going to risk signing away blank cheques to Audi main ******* at this stage!! Is this any help for your diagnosis?

I have a A6 1.9 TDI with the same problem..... did you get it fixed? I believe it's to do with the alarm battery backup.

How did you get on with that beeping and have you subsequently had alarm problem? I noticed the beeping on my A4 a few times when I started up in the morning but assumed it was the cd changer. Now when I go to set my alarm, the lights dont flash and the alarm beeps after a couple of minutes.

my wifes corsa use to do this. and was told by vauxhall that the alarm senses the key fob battery is running down and needs changing .. might be the same with vags

I was in two minds to take the care to the garage, though no one seems to know what the problem specifically is. Rather than waste a load of money I figured, yes it may well be the battery backup for the alarm not charging as I only seem to have done (mostly)short journeys in the last 12 months. I hooked up my battery charger to the battery in the car and just let it charge thinking that not only would it charge the car battery to full but also perhaps the alarm battery backup - in the same way the alternator would. As the alternator isn't really for charging batteries I thought that the extra charge from the charger would work. I haven't had any problems with the beeping since. My concern with yours is that if the lights don't work you'll need to sort something out soon before nothing else works on the alarm.......

Hi MSB I am New to this site also and found it on a google search so any info would be great. I have exactly the same problem as you audi a3 beeps 4 times sometimes when you turn key and they're is a creaky noise coming from the rear left end of car above cd changer. I did have a problem with the indicators not too long ago and i thought it was to do with that so i had the flasher relay unit directly behind the warning lights replaced supposedly they go quite often on audi's,if anyone has problems with this just take out the stereo undo two panel screws and pull forward plastic dash then disconnect the warning light triangle and replace, its quite an easy job don't let audi main ******* do it you can only buy the part from audi tho (great)Anyway back to subject the car stopped beeping for awhile but the noise is back?I was reading somehwhere on this website that a few people have had the same problem and one guy mentioned that it was the alarm battery back up?He hooked his battery up to his battery charger and charged that up hoping it charged his alrm battery back up and he said it worked?maybe we should try that? Let me know if you find anything out? cheers m8

HI MSB just been searching for info and found this on another site

: It means the battery is down on power. my A4 TDi did it for a while about a
year ago, Audi said to get a new battery, I never bothered and it's been
alright for the last year or so.

Definetly must be a battery thing?

Hi all,

I've had an a3 for about 3 years now and it's beeped 4 times every now and then, but not done it for a while. I bought a TT (1.8 coupe 225) about 3 weeks ago, and in the last week it's beeped at me about 3 times! Always in the morning, first start up. A while ago, i was cleaning the interior on the a3 and cleverly knocked the rear courtesy lights on, so come the morning the batt was pretty zonked, car would not start, but no beeps then?!? Pretty useless info for you all really!

Cheers

I ahve contacted my local *******, and they too seem to think that its the alarm battery, but they did not sound convincing!. Anyway, I asked then if I could replace the battery myself, but they said that it would ahve to be done by them. This cant be right, afterall its only a watch battery isn't it? or are they talking about the actual car battery? Grateful for any ideas. Thanks

I bought a 02 TT 180 3 weeks ago and I got 4 beeps every morning for the first 5 days. As it was under warranty, I took it back in and they traced it to the alarm siren unit and fitted a new one. I don't know if this contains the battery too, but I'm assuming it does as people have been saying that it is a "sealed" unit. The cost was £66 for the part and 1hrs labour.

God! I love forums... things are starting to make sense. I bought an Audi A3 T in Feb and occasionally got the beeps when starting the car in the morning. Now I've discovered during a test that I have no siren when the alarm is triggered and apparently, this could mean that the backup battery for alarm is flat/needs replacing.

If I can just figure out where and how to replace that battery, I can bring
a logical conclusion to my ghostly/unknown beeps, which I have not heard for some time by the way.

Faulty alarm siren is common fault on older TT's.... Easy DIY fix once siren bought either second hand or brand new from Vag parts for around £75

Hello mate, I have the same prob with my TT. Asked the question on this forum and had a reply. It is something to do with the Alarm Horn rechargable battery. Basically you will need a new horn about 100-150 notes. You can change the rechargeable battery but someone said it was a bit tricky. I've yet to sort mine out as it is not doing it constantly. I will live with it for now until it gets worse. I was warned that it may start making the alarm go off for no reason, but this has yet to happen.
Hope this helps...Gaz

Hi, my 2003 TT has the same problem. It is intermittent so I will live with it for a while and when it gets worse I will follow the guide and change the rechargable batteries.

Had the same problem with mine when it had been standing for a while whilst I had a leg injury. It is the back up battery for the car alarm which isn't holding the charge it gets whilst driving. The replacement is about £80 from dealer, but once I started to drive it again it went away and has been fine since. You can do it yourself if you are brave enough!!

Just had to replace the alarm siren on my A4 yesterday. Never had the four beeps and figured that the batteries were dead before I bought the car 18 months ago. The unit was completely knackered as the batteries had leaked. The alarm was sounding but with some strange effects. Don't leave it too long or you may not be able to repair.

As stated its the alarm battery backup, you need to replace the siren unit to cure.

If it was beeping and isn't anymore the batteries have likely leaked over the ciruit and kileld the unit.

You can replace the batteries but you need to get to them before they leak.

If anyone has replaced their beeping unit with a new one (~£70) and still has their beeping unit, please can you mail me on wiiillll@hotmail.com because I'd be interested in buying it for repair.

Beeping didn't go away so I followed the instructions posted on this site and changed the battery myself. It was a fairly simple operation and cost about £10 for the rechargable cells.

Much better than the £83 Audi charged me for a new unit (which incidentally is different from the original).

It is an easy job to replace the batteries. Take unit out and cut it in half with a small saw. Batteries can be found at Maplin for about 10 quid. Once replaced put some strong tape around the join.
