As some of you might know my recently purchased A4 TFSI has been in having the juddering steering looked at but that was not the whole story , soon after buying privately I realized it was drinking to much fuel and my heart sunk after doing a search online to find the vast scale of the problem.

My car was coming up to 5 years old with 42k miles and had part Main Dealer and part Indie Specialist History so I was worried to say the least, the car was doing around 800 miles from top to bottom on the MMI so I booked it in for an oil consumption test where they change a few bits and they said to book it back in when you hit around 600 miles.

A few weeks later my wife called me on the way to work with the oil light flashing after only 550 miles so we dropped it straight back off to Audi who supplied us with a loan car and said they would be in touch ( 3 sleepless nights later ) they called to say it needed the engine out and new con - rods and pistons fitted which would all be done free of charge and to put the icing on the cake they said if I wanted while the engine was out they would put a New Clutch and Flywheel in at cost price to them £711 and give me my next service for free because they had wrongly diagnosed the earlier job of the inner tie rod ends .

To say I nearly snapped their hand off was an understatement , I know the oil consumption part is just getting the car back to how it should be anyway and I'm the first to knock Main Dealers but the level of service really was and is outstanding .

So just to add if your suffering this problem out of warranty and not all Main Dealer History just speak to your local dealer as you can find light at the end of the tunnel as long as its been serviced to manufacturers specification using genuine parts.

Nice to know that some dealers are helping but begs the question why others don't? Has the car got an unblemished Audi service history and was bought from an Audi dealer?

I bought the car privately and the car had 2 Main Dealer Stamps and 1 from an Audi independent specialist using genuine audi parts and correct graded oil.

I am surprised, normally a full dealer history is vital.

They seem to be much more flexible with regards to this now. Heard of a few cases from A5 owners who had the fix FOC despite having a couple of services from non-Audi garages, and even had mileages of 100k+.

They do seem to want reassurance that the correct oil grade was used by the non-Audi garages though. Makes me laugh as I must of put in about 6lts of oil when my old A5 had the issue and they didn't once ask me what oil I used...!

Thats correct , it would have been right for it to have been officially made a recall as it is at the end of the day a manufacturing fault but at least they are fixing the problem in a slightly different way.
I still do not fully understand why they state about the correct oil as all the cars that use it still have the problem and you would think that a different grade could or might even be an improvement but the main thing is that they are fixing it which is a huge relief.

Just an update to say we got our car back today and the clutch feels as light as a feather lol , another plus on top of the next free service was they said to have a meal on them for upto £150 as well , got to say a big thanks to Poole Audi and Tom who looked after me all the way .

Great result! Nice to hear when Audi does it right...even though it seems to be few and far between...

It really is but I think if it had of been this time last year it would have been a different story but since more publicity and the watchdog piece on it I think that now more and more are being honored which when you think about it was the right thing to do so i think a lot more people will be pleased.
