whistling noise

Hi all
Model ..passat 1.8 s
year... W 2000
I have a strange whistling noise coming from the what seems to be the front end of the car ( engine compartment) when I depress the accelerator lasting for a bout a second in each gear but does not happen when the vehicle is in neutral or the clutch depressed. also does not happen until the engine is warm. Recently had a new cat fitted.

likewise, i have this problem on my 2000 passat, i wish someone will come out. How did you solve it?

Belt tensioners could be the problem or EGR valve blocking up with carbon also can cause a whistling noise. Could also be the vacuum attached to that unit failing.
