airbag warning light problem 2012 passat

Hi this my first post so be gentle with me! the air bag warning light came on a few weeks ago I took it to a friends garage and he plugged his snap on computer and it came up with a code air bag / seatbelt tensioner fault on passenger side he had a quick check of the wiring under seat and reset it it was ok for 3 weeks and it came back on any ideas how to fix or is it a main dealer job?:confused:

Shouldn't necessarily be a Main dealer job. I had the same problem with my Golf, the slip ring behind the steering wheel was a possible cause, it was was easily changed on mine but some later models needed an additional procedure on Vag-Com to re-set the steering alignment, if I remember correctly. To be honest it didn't sound that hard to do but luckily I never needed to, your car being newer could be a different story though. Here's the rub though it didn't cure the problem on my car and so the on my answer was another Airbag and I had already had that off to do the slip ring so no problems, apart from the price but I managed to track down a second hand one. If you're not confident doing the work yourself, what about a specialist?
