Firstly I apologise as I am not very mechanically minded. All of the information I know is what I have picked up from these forums.
I have a 2011 Passat Estate 1.6 diesel with the airbag light on. I have been to a local VAG specialist and the code reads:
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11100001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency:1
I am taking it into the garage on Tuesday and they have ordered a new wiring loom at £43 plus VAT which they will try first and also ordered a new slip ring at £158 plus VAT which they will change if the wires aren't the problem.
The horn and the steering wheel controls don't work. Would that indicate the clock spring? The garage didn't mention that or is that the same as the slip ring?
Do you think that will sort the problem and if it doesn't work what is the next option? Would the igniter need to be replaced and is that expensive?

When the light came on I was hoping it would be the connection under the driver seat as my wife also uses the car so we often move the seat backwards and forwards. Unfortunately it could end up being very costly.
