HI, I am currently doing up a 86 polo and have bought some alloys to replace the steal wheels, they are original vw. Will I need the correctly tapered bolts for vw alloy wheels or are the original bolts from the steal wheels tapered for alloy wheels?

Had the same prob with my other car (1987 Merc cosworth) when I fitted replacement Merc alloys - mine did require a tapered bolt. Best suggestion is go to your local alloy wheel/tyre shop where they be able measure the bolts and tell you the degree of taper on the existing bolts and which sort of bolts the alloys will need (usually for free) - I had to buy new bolts because the taper I had was wrong - they cost me around £10 for a set of 4 bolts (plus a set of locking nuts) - One tip they told me is that the bolt should always have a minimum of 7 complete turns for safety - Also be cautious of long bolts as these may go right through the hub and damage brake components behind it

hope this helps!
