I'm planning on purchasing some wheels/tyres from mytyres.co.uk

I sent them the following email...
----------------------
I am planning to purchase a wheel/tyre package from you.

I have a 2007 Audi A6 reg M80TRE

My summer tyres are on 19" rims (255/35R19 96Y XL) but I would like 17" rims for my Winter tyres. I was thinking 225/50R17

I like the Rial Milano Titan wheels with Goodyear UltraGrip-Performance-GEN-1 (M+S marking, with rim protection (MFS)) 225/50R17 98 V

One of the options is Format with a choice of OS 47mm or 40mm. How can I tell which I need?

Are the tyres suitable for my car? The summer ones I currently have are XL.

This is the reply I received...

Thank you for your interest in our products.

We would like to inform you that the best way to determine what rims will fit your vehicle is to consult your vehicle's user manual, or consult a tyres specialist so that you may be presented with a certain safe match for your vehicle.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call or send us an e-mail.

So I guess MyTyres do not consider themselves tyre specialists.

So how do I determine what offset I need?

I've investigated further. There is a data sheet available on the website for these (I can provide links if anyone is interested) however they are in German. From what I can tell both of these offsets will fit the A6 4F (Which I think mine is), but one requires a fitting kit which I beleive is provided.

Is there any reason why I should chose one over the other?

I think from your other posts you've got a Le Mans, and although I don't know the exact offset, the same design wheels on my C6 (A6 4F) allroad had an offset of ET43 from memory. I fitted both 17"x7.5" and 18"x8" aftermarket wheels at ET45 (so 2mm in). The fitting kit comprises spigot rings to adapt the wheel to the correct hub size, and appropriate bolts to match the wheels. A quick look on Rimstock's fitment guide shows that offsets in the range ET35-ET50 can fit depending on wheel size although the car will undoubtedly sit better at about ET40.

I was planning to fit the same Le Mans style (7-double spoke) wheels from my A4 for winter use. They're ET42 and it came with a full sized spare which is handy; but I never got round to it and have now sold the car.

I have bought from them before and would consider them to be nothing other than a cheap online tyre sales place. Certainly not tyre experts but good prices and quick delivery.
