Hi
Newbee....bought a 97 A4 1.9 TDI....got one key only...need a new bulb...but can't find one anywhere???

Also, how can I tell if its a 90hp or 110hp model?....and should it have remote locking or did all these old ones lock with the key? (it centrally locks and beeps but I only have a key with a non-working light thing!).

cheers

Andy

Ps whats a B5, B4, B6 mean??

Welcome Andy

If your 97 A4 has central locking on the key, it is quite possible that your central locking pump (located behind the drivers side boot trim, inside a grey foam cover) is a remote version.

If it has a part number 8L0******, with a suffix of 'B' or greater it has the RF receiver built in, and you can use an OEM flip key.

If it has an 'A' suffix pump (non RF), you can swap it for a higher suffix pump to enable remote locking (may need settings changed with vagcom).

Having said all this it is far better & vastly more economical to install an aftermarket 'keyless entry' kit.

I retrofitted the Audi flipkey system on my 97 A4, but found the range very poor, so i now use one of these:

They are very simple to fit, have a far greater range than the Audi remote, lock the car quicker than the OEM system (less pump wear), activate the factory alarm, and give 'full closure' on locking.

I would recommend one.

You can get the transponder capsule in your existing main key cloned for around £10, allowing you to have 2 working keys.

Or swap the transponder capsule (small glass pill) from your key into the new flipkey.

To find out the power check the sticker in the spare wheel well.

The 110bhp version is 81kW

[Thanks

has 81 Kw on sticker...so good news its a 110hp!

"A" suffix so non-RF but I don't mind using the key...need the bulb for what must be a little torch in my key...or even a complete key???

Who is cheapest mail order for service parts?

I guess my car is a B5 (there's a B5 on boot sticker!)

thanks again

Andy

I really would recomend one of the remote locking kits.

for £24 you get 2 flipkeys.

Even with having a new cut blade & transponder fitted, it can work out cheaper than a single OEM key.

If you want an old style key:

The illuminated key bulb is a 1.5v/0.9W type but am not sure of the name.
