Hi,
I own a Passat 110 TDI. It has done 117k and I am looking to get the major service & cambelt change done. I rang 2 VW dealers, I was quoted £600 by the 1st one and £700 by the other.
The dealer that quoted £700 said it was because they replace the water pump and all tensioners. Do water generally need replacing at the mileage?

My 2nd q is, The exahust has had a tinny rattlle in 1st gear, I took it to the garage and they said it needed a bracket made, they have done that but it still rattles. Also there is never any TDI smoke out the back, even on cold start up. When you stop you can smeel diesel fumes out the side of the car, but 2 garages have said its not blowing, any ideas?

Sorry about the long paragraph's, it would be nice to get these sorted because aprt from that I really like the car.

Thanks
Joe.

The Audi dealer in Cornwall quoted me £415 to do the same work, have weekend away and get your car fixed!!

The recommend changing the water pump as the front on the car has to come off so £40 on a water pump is nothing to the labour charge should it go at a later date.;)

My Cat split recently on my Audi 110bhp 125K it was a hairline and I got an ocasional rattle when it dropped slightly, There is a guard over the drive shaft that it can hit. check around the left hand side of the engine toward the back;)

Hi, i did a timing belt change on a 1998 a4 tdi last weekend, all parts bought from Euro Car Parts for 140 pounds(that's with a hefti discount i allways get !). Contitech timing belt kit, contitech auxiliary and AC belts and water pump with brass impeler. If you have time to travel to London one weekend, i could change it for much less than that, lets say 250-300 pounds including the parts. It takes about 4-5 hours and i replenish the coolant as well.

I just had my cam belt done on my 110Bhp 1.9Tdi Passat Engine Code AFN. The parts were genuine VW cambelt kit & whole job cost me £241 at my local specialist.
Change the Air & Pollen filter yourself & get the garage to change the oil, oil & fuel filter if you can't.

If I remember correctly I got the air, pollen, fuel & oil filter for about £25 from VW.

Mine doesn't smoke on start up either.

Fumes...sounds like there is a hole somewhere. Get a rag & put it over the exhaust whist the engine is running. It will show up any blowing along the exhaust.

Cheers :beerchug:
