Winter wheels

I'm planning to get a new set of rims to put winter tyres on.

I have a A6 S-line Le Mans. I notice in the brochure that the 17" wheels are not available for the s-line. Does this mean that they won't fit?

I don't particularly need to use 17" wheels, but it does open up my options a little.

Also can anyone recommend decent, but cheap tyres?

Current Tyres are 255-35/19. Would I be better off with different profile for winter tyres?

We have 18" Dunlop winter sport tyres for the wife's A5 in winter. We're incredible last year and only about £100 each iirc.

Have a look at your tyre pressure sticker inside your drivers door and it will list the tyre sizes that will fit your car. Any marked M+S are winter tyres.

I have some 18" rims and winter tyres that I haven't got around for putting up for sale yet. I was going to wait for the summer hols to end.... ;-)

The tyres are Conti Winter Contacts 245/40 x 18, the normal Pre-facelift S Line tyre size. I would say they have two winters left in them before they get down to the German winter markers, far more before they get down the legal 1.6mm markers.

The rims are replicas of the 5 arm Ronal wheels fitted to pre-facelift S Lines. They fit perfectly and look good but aren't Audi originals. Overall good condition, some marks and blistering around the valves.

Sorry, forgot to mention the tyres are un-damaged and the rims are straight with no cracks or buckles. When properly balanced the car runs true (all the way to ski resorts, several times).

I bought my Dunlop 3D's for £180 fitted off ebay, they still had 6mm on them and got from a company that imports by the container load from Germany where winter tyres are compulsory and must be changed every 2yrs (IIRC).

Perhaps now is the best time to buy as you may get best pricing! :)

On a C7 A6 you need 18" rims - I have some for sale if you still want them
