I have only one FOB that has lost it's programming, it's a 2004 2.0L non turbo, unleaded.

I understand that the *********** can program it for a fee, but what if it looses it's programming again? I should probably have a second fob, as the owners manual says that I can program a fob if I have a working fob...but getting a new one cut/programmed, and my current one reprogrammed is going to cost a bundle.

Is there a way to reprogram it without any special tools? (i.e. VAGcom)?
Manually? similar to the way we used to do it with domestics? i.e. put the key in the ignition, turn it off/on a few times, then shake it all about, do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around?

I have found that I need a key in the ignition to reprogram this current unprogrammed fob. I don't have one, to get one cut is nearly impossible, however, the *********** is willing to do it for $70...that's so nice of them.
