Can anyone tell me what the small plastic plunger at the front of the engine bay just under the bonnet does? Mine has lost the little grey collar round it ( assume I leant on it accidentally ). It still goes up/down but I would like to get a new one as it is a bit wobbly, but I'm not sure what I'm after.

Mine is an aftermarket alarm and this looks like an original fitting of some kind, so don't think it's an alarm.

thats an aftermarket switch for the aftermarket alarm. the original bonnet switch is part of the bonnet latch.

you can tell its not original cos vw wouldn't have used a woodscrew.
