golf mk 5 1.6 fsi issue with clock and trip resetting

I have just bought the wife a vw golf and noticed an issue with the clock and trip meter resetting when the key is removed from the ignition. I've checked the battery and during stat up satys at constant 9.6v then when the car is running its at 14v. ive also set the clock once the key has turned once then stared the engine and the clock stays set.
i was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or do i just take it back to the garage.
