Hi,

I was looking to purchase an A3 2.0tdi 170 and I was wondering when the timing belt would be due, I have had conflicting info from a couple of dealerships as such, one said 140000 miles or 60 months ( 5 years ) on a 2012/12 model another that it would be due at 4 years on a 2011 so would be done as part of the purchase, I thought it was 4 years so the 5 year figure has thrown me, it was obtained via autodata-online.net by the dealer, any help appreciated.

Thanks
John

4 years means you won't have to rebuild the engine when it fails. better sooner rather than later.

Thanks Zollaf, sounds like the dealer gave me incorrect information, i'll have to factor in the cost in the next year if I was to purchase the 2012.

The plot thickens...... called the local dealership and gave them the reg and they say 140000 or 5 years? seemingly they extended the period? possible that they are giving me the interval for the latest model late 2012 onwards but if they used the reg then it must be accurate?

does it matter, get it done at 4 years and you won't be hoping the 5 years interval is right. after all, its you picking up the 2k tab if its wrong.

I follow the 60k or 4 years rule, engines are expensive both to buy and have fitted, the cost of a new belt is small in comparison

140,000 miles?. How many tensioners and pumps would last that long, never mind the belt!

Why not ask them to do the belt as part of the deal?
They will say no, but there may be a good in between solution lurking
