Could anyone please advise the wheel bolt torque setting for a 2014 A6 Ultra.

Tight. Does anyone torque their road wheel nuts?

Reputable tyre fitters, dealers, Greenman58, Whippy, me or anyone who is safety conscious :p

Obviously if they are not tight enough they might come loose after a few heat cycles. Too tight and you can warp a wheel (or even a disk) and makes it tough to change a flat at the roadside. I would also recommend you take the offer of a free recheck after 100 miles from most reputable outfits… especially if you have alloys.

In saying all that, I’m sure you will get away with it 99% of the time ;)

I take the point about wheel warpage and coming loose. I always tighten in a cross-pattern (or an equal offset pattern on 5-bolt wheels) to spread the load evenly, and I tighten in three passes, but I never put a torque wrench on them.

You can get a torque wrench for small money maybe 30 squids. A five stud wheel is tightened using + 1. So say a bolt is at 1 o'clock tighten it skip one and tighten the next, one pass is enough.

I’m lucky… my elbow clicks at 120nm :biglaugh:

I use the same +1 approach as you advocate. I have two torque wrenches - I just don't use them on the wheels. I can't agree about one pass, though, you need to do at least two to pull the wheel up to the hub evenly, I think. I do three as a precaution. Maybe I should get the wrench out....

Well I do go over again just to sweeten them up but no tighter than they were torqued as it defeats the point of torquing. I saw a torque wrench in Lidl 20 yoyos 3 years guarantee and a German calibration certificate.

I always re-torque after tyre changes- It's surprising how some bolts are over tightened ( even after the a garage torque wrench has been used). I've seen garages applying torque long after the torque wrench has "clicked"

Just to clarify, 120nm is the standard torque setting for most VAG cars...not just the A6 C7 or Ultra :)

All four tyres changed today, sixty mile trip to Winchester, now, where's that wrench gone?

torque wheels? Yes absolutely... as has been noted you really don't want one to depart as you are driving.

120nM is what I use (from Audi handbook) and it really is not THAT much - but it is what the spec and it works.

Neighbour has a nice torque wrench and is very kind :)

It's important that the wheel mating area under the bolt heads are free from paint . On new factory wheels this is free from paint but if using refurbished wheels then any paint in these areas should be removed. Failure to remove the paint in these areas could result in bolts coming loose when the paint flakes off.
