Fit a VAG exchange turbo, they have a two year guarantee. This is a common problem on the 130 and 150 and gets worse if the car is chipped/mapped/tuning boxed.

That is way too cheap for a properly reconditioned unit but it’s entirely up to you. I have seen so many problems with cheap turbo rebuilds that I won't touch them. I did one for a customer who supplied his own and after we had removed it the third time he gave up, asked for his money back and we fitted him a VW exchange unit. Ask the cheap place if they give a full parts and labour guarantee for two years, mind you for £724.61 inc. VAT you would hope so.

He is quoting you on a new unit, not an exchange unit which is 038 253 019 CX but that has been superseded twice now to a new number of 03G 253 014 RX and these are £724.61 inc. VAT. Don't these dealers now how to use their own systems?

More or less all the 110 TDI (GT1749V / vnt15) turbos are interchangeable.

Just make sure you get a turbo from the same longitudinal or transverse engine type, as the compressor outlet may have a 90 degree bent and exit inline with the spindle.

On a Golf this is a transverse engine.

Also some vnt15's have an integrated exhaust manifold.

Turbo's from the later PD engines will also fit (AWX Passat etc)

Some turbos which may well fit are

Audi A3: (1 OF MANY)
Garrett part No: 713672-0002E
OEM Part No: 038253019C

Skoda Octavia:
Garrett part No: 713672-0002E
OEM Part No: 038253019C

VW Golf:
Garrett part No: 713672-0002E
OEM Part No: 038253019C

Garrett part No: 706712-001E
OEM Part No: 028145702T

Garrett part No: 454231-0001/3/4/5E
OEM Part No: 038253019A

Garrett part No: 454195-0001E
OEM Part No: 038353019

Garrett part No: 454161-0001E
OEM Part No: 028145702D

You can also have your turbo reconditioned very inexpensively.

There are many places around that can do this.

I use this company in Huddersfield: http://www.melett.com/index.php

All the turbo's listed above are 'Garrett GT1749V' type, for 110 TDI engines.

It is the same turbo on a 115PD engine.

The 2001 onwards turbos just have a 'bayonet & clip' / 'common barb' fitting on the intercooler hose, as opposed to the earlier sleeve fit.

I would take this oportunity to fit a GT1749VA from a 130PD engine.

Does your existing turbo look like this:

From above i think you already have your answer;) i think not as i've just been told to avoid the mk5 2.0 tdi turbo as the manifold is lined up different to the 1.9 and they're both gt1749va and i'm not going to rush out and buy any turbo. but cheers to those that helped :beerchug:

This is not elegant, but it is the simplest most cost effective solution for the compressor outlet.

A section of PD boost hose.

Just buy a used pd100/pd130 boost hose and chop it in half.

This allows you to use your existing intercooler pipe.

Or kerma sells a bayonet-to-sleeve fit adapter.
