My 2009 2 ltr petrol Q5 with 45K miles occasionally shows a gearbox error notice. It is an automatic and the message tells me it is in a safe mode with restricted gears. Most times it does not change from the gear it is in and goes away after a few seconds. I have not been able to understand a pattern but it happens more often during a longer drive and can occur a few times and then no problems. It is just annoying rather than critical. Has anybody an idea of what is going on? I hate taking intermittent minor problems to the garage as they are hard to find, expensive and usually do not get fixed.
