towing

trying to find out if anybody know the weight limit of a factory fit towbar.Can i tow 1900kg. maybe more.

I spoke to VW yesterday and for my passat 1.9 tdi 130 they say 1500kg if the trainer has brakes if not then not safe to carry more than 600kg as this would make braking harder. what I have been trying to find out is if carry a caravan (2 people caravan) 3-4 times a year to France would cause engine ware or damage. I have spoken to some engine tuning specialists and they say no these are the best cars for doing this. have any of you been told otherwise?
