Hi All,

New to the forum as looking to buy an A3 -S-line 2.0 tdi, either 138 or 168 PS. I can't seem to find a specific buying guide - could someone point me in the right direction if there is one.

Currently looking at an 09 170 in good condition with full history but has 87k on the clock for £9.5K.
I beleive the reliability of the enging/clutch on these shoud be fine ( please correct me if i need to watch for anything in particular).
I am a little concerned with the possible re-sale value in 3/4 years with potentially 110-120k miles on. I see there are a lot of cars out there with high miles that seem to sell - should i be concerned?
I've never bought anything with such high miles (barring an 1990 Escort with 110k on not long after i'd passed my test back in 1998) and potentially would be part exing my 07 civic 2.2 Cdti with less miles (83k).

Any help advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

Hi, I have just bought an A3 2.0 tdi s line, 3 years old with 93k on the clock, I think if it has a full Audi service history everything should be fine. I did have a new timing belt and water pump fitted as soon as I bought it just for peace of mind. The car is beautiful and runs like a dream. Good luck in your search.

Hi there,

IMO anything VAG holds its money much higher than your average motor, especially sline.
Always go for the higher bhp model, and try to always find one with leathers and sat nav (might be a bit extra but i always find them easier to sell)
As long as its full FASH then you shouldnt have a problem with higher miles, especially if the bodywork is well looked after
Also IMO only, i would never buy from a dealer, only private. So many dealers just do an 'in house' service and quickly bodge paintwork that needs doing.

I have bought the same model myself and the fuel system is somewhat new and very quiet and of course with a high BHP level. I highly suggest anyone to post their user reviews on the following for:

The FASTEST (S3 TFSI Quattro 3dr S Tonic)
The CHEAPEST (1.2 TFSI 110 SE 3dr) and for
The GREENEST (1.4 TFSI e-tron 5dr S Tronic)

So that you can make a good comparison on whether you what type of A3 versions you use that actually pays dividends for fuel economy!
