A4 Avant Concert Radio High Pitched noise

My concert radio/CD doesn't work and is constantly whining at me with a high pitched noise. The radio doesn't work, doesn't output any sound but locks on to radio stations and when I put a CD in it is so faint and crackly I cant use it.

I am not sure if it is a faulty head unit or what. It is the half amped one if that makes any difference.

Does anyone know what this could be?
