Hi Guys

Im new to these forums so hope ive posted in the right section.

My Skoda Fabia's front passenger window regulator broke, i bought a new one and using the haynes manual set out to fit it. the manual stated i needed to remove the door handle which i didn't, and this is where my issue is. now ive fitted the new door carrier and re installed the door handle, the door doesn't want to open using the internal or external handles, the central locking works perfecting on the door however the handles don't open the door at all. Any one know whys its doing this, and is it possible to fix with the door closed as it wont open obvs.

Cheers in advance,
Ramjam

Hi
Not too sure I can help. But thought I would reply because I know how pants door problems can be, with only Mr Haynes's version of events and sometimes questionable illustrations.
These are purely suggestions . I've looked in the Haynes (4376)and found it no help.
Check the Bowden cable is connected correctly. Unfortunately the inner door panel needs to come off, but with a dumpy screwdriver and lots of patients, the bottom screws may come out (can't remember if the door rubber will be in the way)

Have you tried operating both handles together or different combinations, ie with different degrees of tensions on the opener cables. Its looking like the spring that connects to the control levers has become detached. and if the levers are not in the correct position you would get the problem you have.

I've read somewhere that in the event of the doors being fully locked and a totally dead battery, the key could operate the deadlock mechanically and also go on to open the door catch. If yours is an early model you might have a lock on the passenger side door. It's mentioned that turning the key passed the normal opening amount could be stiffer due to not being normally used. But I would get some advice from someone else before trying it. I don't want to be the reason for a snapped key. But if the door has no lock...

I went on the tinternet and looked in the images instead of web bit and found some better pictures/diagrams of the door catch assembly. I put " fabia front door lock assy" and clicked on images. These could help you understand what and where twisted coat hangers etc need directing to.
Hope you find a way without employing a crowbar.
Cheers for now
Dave

Hi RamJam,
Seems that there is no link to the actual lock itself.i would imagine that in fitting the new window regulator, you may have disconnected the manual cables that operate the lock or disconnected the electrical socket. Nothing for it except to remove the door card and manually check the actual lock itself. For sure you will find something disconnected. either reconnect it or you can use a screwdriver to manually release the lock. Be as carefull as you can when removing the plastic sheet, which keeps the water out of the passenger compartment and protects the door trim itself. If it tears ( and most likely it will ) use duct tape (or similar ) to seal it up again before replacing the door card and fittings etc.
