Good afternoon All,

I was hoping someone could give me some guidance on changing Injector 3 (Needle Lift) on a 2.5 TDI.

I have come across several guides, but can't seem to locate the following info:

1. Where do I get a copper washer for the injector from, or what is the part number?
2. Should I replace any other washers?
3. Were do I get the rocker gasket from, or what is the part number?
4. How do i tighten up the rocker cover - Is there a sequence and/or a certain torque i need to use?
5. I purchase a second hand injector, should or can I clean it before putting it in the car? If yes, then what should I use?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Regards
Ben

Washer from dealer or fuel injection specialist. Have you done a basic check on the Ohms reading across terminals on injector? 100-110 ohms.

Good evening, I haven't checked the ohms, just done a VCDS scan as the car seem a little rough, and lacking some power.
Could it be something else?

Cheers
Ben

Ohms on suspected faulty injector are 464, ohms on secondhand replacement injector are 98.

Anyone got any feedback?

Assuming i should swap?

As Alan02 said 100-110 Ohms. If you used an analogue meter instead of a digital one, you would not see the difference between 98 and 100 Ohms. I would say that 464 Ohms is not correct and a change is necessary

Changed injector 3, all put back together, and car is very lumpy and shaking:-(
The fault code for the injector has now gone, but it is now saying something to do with valve seating!!!

Someone please help?

*** UPDATE 16.03.15 ... Re-scanned and no more codes, although symptoms are still present ***

It seems like next check would be on compression

How do i check that?

Once a rev it a few times It smoothes out?

You need to have a special heavy duty compression tester for this.
It may also be possible to do same with electronic equipment, but it needs someone that has good experience to be able to determine results.

Have you checked around the injector for blow past, if there was any carbon on the seat in the head, you wont get a good seal. Also, did you bleed the injector pipe at the injector?

Help please :-(

I am about ready to give up trying to be a mechanic :-(

There was loads of carbon built up on the old injector, didn't think to check the seat.

Once i rev it hard a few times it settles down!

By bleeding, do you mean loosening the pipes that connect to the injectors when the engine is running?

Even though one injector wasn't working, the car was running better before i started!!!

Hi, yes thats right about bleeding. Just crack open the nut when cranking or running for a second or two. Remember, you can easily close up the hole on the pipe by overtightening the nut! If you suspect this, take off pipe to check. It could well be carbon related and your losing a bit of compression. If the Ohms reading was over 400 that injector was goosed.

Good evening Alan,

Thanks for getting back to me.
How do i go about cleaning the carbon out?
I don't want any going where it shouldn't be!!!

The engine just doesn't sound right, and the car shakes like crazy!

Do you think I should just give up and take it to a specialist?

Will check compression on VCDS tomo if i can figure out how.

Can you hear or detect any blow past? A drop of oil around injector will spit if any blow past. Check injector pipe #3 against another to see if hole closed up. If carbon in injector area, remove injector try and seal hole with something suitable...not too snug it wont come out. Try cleaning out with some sort of small stiff brush....improvise. To clear out the debris try blowing out with compressed air...or crank over for a second or two. Ensure the injector washer is removed before cleaning, and its seat is also clean...washer in good order. A compression test is best done with a gauge.
