Ambient temperature sensor query

The ambient temp reading on the dash suddenly stopped reading and started to just 'boing' after a minute or so after starting car and flashes ice warning and degrees C, then nothing. So I tested the sensor (which is fine and not open circuit) and tried another OE sensor and all that happens now is that the dash just displays degrees C and nothing else. I cleared the fault in VCDS and disconnected the battery for a few mins but to no avail. Any ideas or suggestions? Cheers.

It said 'sensor open circuit, intermittent' or something along those lines!? Sorry not got code.

Only thing I can suggest is to check connector and cable back from sensor. I had a faulty reading on my A3 for a while and found close to the sensor a joining in cables which
was making a poor connection. Probably different to your situation but worth a look
