Can someone please help

Hi guys hopefully someone can help me*, I'm the proud owner of a 1999 a3 sport and the problem I have is I've got to unlock the doors with the key as I only have 1 key and the fob doesn't work. The central locking works when I unlock it manually but when I do if I don't put the key in the ignition within a few seconds the hazard lights go off but no alarm siren. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem

why doesn't the fob work ? try a new battery and get a spare key !

I wouldn't buy a car without a spare key or I want £200 off the price !

It appears as if the siren is disabled because of the fob problem.
It is nearly essential to have a spare key for these cars, they can lock themselves at the wrong moment, like when the key is inside the car.
Expect to pay equivalent of 200 euros at a key specialist for spare key,or ask them if the fob can be sorted.

Has the Central Locking ever worked on the fob or has it just stopped working?
