View Full Version : Multitronic slipping on heavy acceleration!!

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me diagnose a problem I am having with my multitronic transmission for Audi A4 B6 with an ALT 2.0 Petrol engine.

I recently had the hydraulic unit and valve body of my transmission replaced, and the car drives perfectly well, until I try to accelerate hard e.g. to gain speed after going over a hump or manoeuvring a corner, at which point the clutch feels like it is slipping.

But once I ease up on the accelerator the car moves again with no problem and the gears shift normally.

Starting off and stopping are all fine with no hesitation or judder. This problem only happens when I reduce speed while driving, and suddenly step hard on the accelerator to regain speed.

There is no problem at all if I drive the car with soft/careful acceleration. I changed the oil and did clutch adaptations after installing the new valve body and hydraulic pump. The clutches also appear to be in good condition since they do not slip at any other time while driving e.g. when driving/balancing up a hill.

I have also checked for fault codes and it has got none!!

Will be most grateful for advise on what I should look out for.

Best regards

Charles

Seems to me your clutches are going as that is consistent with slipping when you put your foot down.

Regardless of it being a multitronic system, the fact of the matter is that auto boxes work on a set of centrifugal clutches that apply pressure to the barrel which delivers power from the engine to the torque converter.

The only way forward I'm sorry to say is a gearbox rebuild with a specialist who'll replace the clutches. Don't expect much change from £1,000 so it may be more cost effective to drop in a reconditioned gearbox.
