Hi all,

Just looking for some advise/opinions?

I recently bought an A4 convertible 2.4 auto. The auto has started to slip and apparently this is a common problem with the Multitronic, though it could be a number of reasons?
I took my car to the TT Shop in Kempston, Bedford where they said they would need top Diagnostic at a cost of £48. I agreed to this with a view they would discover what the problem was and offer me advise on what to do next..........So you would think.
Afterwards, they said they would need to look into this and contact me with regards to what they have concluded and discuss cost/s etc.
This was last Friday, and having not heard from them I emailed them on Tuesday evening asking them WHY they haven't contacted me, and if they cannot concluded this then they should refund me my £48 expense for the Diagnostic which hasn't helped me at all!!
Their email reply to me I found shocking: AS FOLLOWS

Hi Stewart,

Thanks for your email.

I hope this helps you understand the process and why you were charged for the work done.

Some points :-

No reputable specialist garage with trained mechanics would give free of change diagnostics – why would they? Trained technicians, specialist equipment and valuable time – we’d be doing FOC diagnostic s all day long - no business would survive to be able to provide the service required for very long doing that.

£48 is our entry level electronic diagnostic charge, cheaper than most diagnostic specialists (and dealership)

An electronic scan of the cars stored fault codes should always be the first port of call and in aningredient part of the diagnostic process – meaning the information gained and then interpreted by a technician may need to lead to further investigation. You car was not even booked in and arrived on spec, and was seen without having to be booked in as goodwill / to try and help you– you were quoted the cost before the diagnostic scan was carried out, and agreed to it.

When work is carried out on cars, sometimes diagnostic charges can be absorbed. But clearly only when WORK is carried out subsequently.

If the work being carried out is able to absorb the original diagnostic charge, maybe the price for the work is too high to start with, or the garage is not able to charge for their diagnostic work, or they are not busy enough?

As you would have seen when you visited us, that is not the case with us.

I hope that the garage you have booked in to, can resolve your issue, but clearly we have not charged you for anything that has not been done.

Regards,
TTS

Just ask for a print out of the diagnostic scan. What you paid for!
